Great concept

My friend and I visited Cafe Averechts for their Thai themed night today. This and the previous Asian night that I didn’t attend (Korean) were both fully vegan, and I hope it will stay this way as I am definitely planning on visiting again! As a starter we had a tom kha soup with tofu, main was a salad with some type of “pancake” (though my Thai friend didn’t know what it was but the flavour was there!) and for dessert we got mango sticky rice. I have a mango allergy, but they were happy to make some adjustments for me. I got strawberries instead of mango on the dessert and they mixed the mango through the salad last so I had a portion that didn’t contain any. Aside from it being an affordable meal (where can you get 3 courses for 15€ nowadays??) it was both tasty and for a good cause. (Probably because of Pride) this month’s profit is going to Queer people in Uruguay which is awesome.
I put it on 4 stars for now because I don’t know how consistent the quality of the food is but if it is like this next time I go I might give them an extra point!

Pros: Fun themes, Very affordable!, Delicious and prepared with love

Cons: Placemats were laminated recipes containing meat, Not very authentic cuisine

Good food and beautiful idea!

A few times a month there is a dinner that is prepared by volunteers and the money raised is donated to social projects 💚
The day I went, everything was vegan (starter, main course and dessert). It was all very tasty!

Cozy, familiar and fairly prices Sunday lunch!

I was lucky to arrive in Utrecht on Sunday, when Cafe Averechts hosts it set-menu lunch. This is definitely rather popular, as several tables had been seated before I arrived, and several more were seated after I got there.

My 12 euro set menu included a delicious soup (cannot remember if carrot or pumpkin, but definitely tasty), served with some crackers which I could not recognise but which I enjoyed.; a cold dish of Vietnamese spring rolls (nice, but I loved them in general, so I am biased) served with dipping sauce (as they had so many people to serve, I imagine that is why they opted for a cold main); and dessert, which that day was a slice of cake topped with ice cream.

I could not have dessert as it was not vegan, and initially they invited me to order a coffee at the bar, instead, although later the person serving me offered to put together some pineapple with coconut cream and almond, which -while not a real dessert- was an ok way to end the meal.

The same person serving checked on the soup for me (it was vegan, including the sprinkling of coconut cream) and was kind enough to explain and speak in English. I am mentioning this because this place is run by volunteers: the service is no-frills and feels more familiar than professional, which is actually rather nice in the context of a Sunday lunch.

The pub itself is cozy and nested away in a beautiful, somewhat secluded spot, far away from the tourist hustle and bustle. There are games available and it seems totally kid friendly. It would be ideal for a lazy lunch on a cold Autumn day.

Pros: Cozy pub, away from the tourist mayhem, The 3-course menu feels fairly prices at 12 euros, Perfect for a relaxed Sunday lunch with friends

Cons: The dessert was not vegan they day I visited , Service staff are volunteers but still helpful
