Serves meat, vegan options available. Thai food menu, includes some vegetable/vegetarian dishes. Staff can advise which items are or could be made vegan.
Limited vegan options, but the curry was nice - Edit
Came here with a few friends on our one night stay in Lanceston - as the fully Vegan Lotus Thai was closed on Monday evening. I ordered the vegan option yellow curry with jasmine Thai. The curry was nice - mild and with a lot of sauce. Some vegetables and tofu. If you are after a good amount of veg, one of the stir frys might be a better option. However, none of them on the menu we’re identified as vegan and I was too tired to ask. The staff were friendly and the location is central.
I used to love this place when Omni, but it only offers one or two dishes. They're delicious, but you're better to go to lotus down the road (same owner and all vegan apparently) or monsoon next door.
Read the bad reviews but seeing that it was Sunday night and not much was open thought I would go. Told the waitress I was vegan, she rushed off to the kitchen to confirm what was vegan then came back to take the order. I ordered a Thai curry but then she disappeared again coming back this time with a "vegetarian" menu. It had about 4 or 5 items on it, and was even more expensive than the meat curries! $20 for a vegetable stir fry (no tofu, just vegetables and no rice included!). Also it did not specify what was vegan and at least one of the vegetarian dishes contained egg. Honestly, just don't bother, this place doesn't even belong on HappyCow, the pub around the corner ended up having better vegan options!
I had the red curry and I just asked if there was any fish sauce and they said no. Figure since it has no egg and used coconut milk I was safe. I'm not a picky vegan so I didn't say I was a vegan because I read in an earlier review about an extra charge, not sure if it's a vegan fee lol.
The red curry with tofu was good, also had a side of rice. Came to $21 which is pretty norm in Australia ( just saying cause saw people posting price complaints. That said the portions were not small but also not great. There are not a lot of vegan options in Launceston so I would say if you're hungry this place is worth a go.
While the staff were nice and helpful showing us what we could eat and cleaning thoroughly before cooking, we were charged $51.70 for 3 small rice paper rolls and 2 mains. The portion sizes were ridiculously small. It did taste great but not even worth it for what we paid.
It was vegetables and sauce and I saw her add on $2 for each main meal. Didn't have time to argue. Just won't bother next time
I just had dinner here and honestly don't understand the negative reviews. My partner and I shared the fresh rice paper rolls for starter. Then I had the jungle curry with tofu and he the prawn curry. We both liked our food. The side order of coconut rice was on point and well worth the extra $1 over the regular plan rice. We also ordered the sweet sticky rice dumpling with taro for dessert, which came with a huge scoop of ice cream. I originally wanted to get a pad kee mao as well but also got the same answer from the staff like the first review—they couldn't skip the egg. But this time they said it was because it was too busy at the moment (which it was) and normally they would accommodate. I still think it's BS though. This is my only gripe; everything else was pretty decent.
$15.50 for rice veggies and soy sauce. literally
there is only 3 vegan options and they are all just veggies soy sauce and a cup of rice with various flavours. if i remember correctly its
chili flakes and basil
shallots and ginger
garlic and onion
the portions are very small and for the cheapest food on the planet rice and veggies i don't know how that corresponds to being $15.50 its a dish that could easily be made in 5 mins at home
We enjoyed a simple vegetarian meal here. Some wonderful looking juices were being served to other diners, but we just had water. BYO alcohol. Friendly staff. Very busy - eat early or you don't get a table! Takeaway looked popular, both main meals and sweet dishes.
For the first time ever they couldn't do a vegan Pad Thai. Why? Because you can't fry in a wok without egg! WTF? And could not be done without shrimp sauce. Decided to go elsewhere.
