Lovely ambience and delicious food - Edit
Tucked away in a side street/alley next to a spa, this restaurant is by far one of my favorites in Phnom Penh. The beetroot falafel was delicious, the avocado spring rolls were incredible and passionfruit mango smoothie was great. There are no bad items on the menu! The ambience was lovely, there was outdoor seating near a bar and pool and also indoor (roofed but open to the outside) seating with cushions near a bookshelf area with ukuleles.

The best vegan pancakes, and possibly best-ever pancakes… - Edit
A lovely courtyard area underneath leafy trees to hide you from the hot Cambodian sun, with a small indoor area that reminds you of a library is where you eat. Only came for breakfast, but the scrambled tofu with refried beans plus a couple of the fluffiest pancakes really hit the spot. Will visit again if I return to PP.

Blown away - Edit
This place has incredible flavors. My friend and I were so happy to find this place. We got the black bean tacos and the increíble burger. Also a chai tea pot and tried one of the kombuchas. So nice. Everything! And I’m going back today to eat it for breakfast before we leave Phnom Penh.

Great space - Edit
A nice find in Phnomh Penh, sometimes whilst travelling you feel like some home comforts and this hit the spot. Smoothies, Coffee and Kombucha that reminded us of Australian cafe culture drinks, food was big portion size and delicious. Only downside was that it didnt accept card for payment.

Everything was delicious. The venue is cool... The hotel seems beautiful as well, but was fully booked. They were advertising behaviour kefir and kombucha everywhere, but didn't have any in stock when I was there

very good breakfast - Edit
had the coconut and banana pancakes and they were so so tasty the syrup they came with was amazing. boyfriend had the chicken nugget burger which was good and a big portion although a little dry so had to add the ketchup on the side for the wedges, would be nice if they brought over more sauces etc but just a minor thing and i’m sure we could have asked more more. such a lovely setting just in a courtyard near a swimming pool with lots of plants, fairy lights strung up so im sure it looks very cute in the evening too. even had us looking up the price of the hotel as we wished we stayed there as it had such a chilled and lovely vibe.

Enjoyed a delivery of black bean tacos and mushroom tofu stir fry. Both delicious and excellent portion sizes. Delivery in eco packaging and with bamboo cutlery which is good to see. One of the best vegan options in Phnom Penh for sure. Highly recommended.

Beautiful Setting & Delicious Vegan Delicacies - Edit
Bong Bonlai is a very cozy place, with lots of plants and flowers. It makes you feel that you are escaping some of the business of the city. The food is 100% vegan and most of the dishes are absolutely delicious and freshly made. I definitely recommend the tempeh skewers, the truffle pizza, the pancakes, the tofu scramble and the cheesecake :)

Order western, not Khmer food here - Edit
Staff is very friendly, the service a bit unorganized but fine. The restaurant setting is great! However, all of the Khmer food we tried here was very very unimpressive, it was bland and came with minimal toppings. The breakfast items we tried varied in quality. Wouldn’t recommend the french toast, but we did like the brunch dishes. However, the portions are very small so you have to order at least 3-4 meal items to create a full brunch. Overall there are better places to eat

Superb - Edit
Ended up eating here for dinner multiple nights as it was the closest veg restaurant to me. Had the (very good) veggie burger the first night, but on the second night I discovered the tempeh skewers which remain THE most amazing meal I've had in Cambodia. Absolutely delicious, and served with a generous helping of fantastic hummus and four pieces of roti. I think there are only two ladies working the kitchen, so things can take a while at dinner if they're busy, but the surroundings are pleasant and the food is definitely worth the wait. Highly recommended!

Air tastes more than this - Edit
I’m sorry but...seriously? Come on... How could you even serve this food? Absolutely zero taste AND to top it off, the service was insanely slow (no other guests there and we still waited a good 45 mins) and impersonal. The items on the menu looked amazing so I was very disappointed. We specifically had the tofu scramble and beans, the incredible burger, and the coconut pancakes (these were nothing but a complete disaster). Avoid!

Disappointingly bland breakfast - Edit
I really wanted to like this place. I ordered the Scrambled Tofu and Beans, the smoothie bowl, and some green tea. To be fair, the smoothie bowl was pretty good, but I wish they hadn’t been skimpy with the toppings other than the banana - they seemed more like garnish than ingredients.
Read moreThe main dish was surprisingly disappointing. The tofu itself tasted like it had been cooked in cooking oil without any seasonings (not even salt and pepper, let alone any spices to add flavor), and despite the description that it was a scramble of tofu, kidney beans, garlic, and tomato there was not one bean in the dish, I’m 99% sure not one clove of garlic was used, and it looked like they managed to find a single cherry tomato to sauté into the scramble. Either the cook didn’t have a clue what the dish was supposed to be, or they were out of ingredients and didn’t think I’d care. It was just sautéed soft tofu on bread - bland, bland, bland.
Not helping things, the green tea also wasn’t very good, and while I wouldn’t normally comment on something like that, in this case, the mediocrity seemed to fit in with the rest of the experience. Perhaps it’s better at lunch/dinner, or I caught them on an off day.
Pros: Vegan, Outdoor seating
Cons: Quality, Service
