After reading the other reviews, I thought we should stick with wings and skip the pizza that sounded Daiya-heavy, but a number of the pies were daiya-free (the Popeye was great!) and slices all looked really good and the wings were very much straight seitan, not like fake chicken or tofu that you might expect.

A True Philadelphia Vegan Food Experience - Edit
The pizza was superb and affordable, but the sandwiches and wings were the true tastebud grabbers. The Chicken Parm sandwich was incredible. The spicy chicken sandwich was a dream. The Philly Cheesesteak was gooey, melting in your mouth. This was where I fell in love with seitan and veganism. Blackbird will be missed.

Been wanting to try this place for a while! Finally made it to Philly to try this GEM! The pizza was amazing! While at BlackBird, I tried a few different slices with friends. We tried the Haymaker, Funghi, spicey BBQ and pepperoni! They were amazing! I also tried the wings they were great also! After trying the pizza we went to the donuts shop next door, Dottie’s donuts (vegan)! Awesome places now trying to figure out how to get back to try the cheesesteak!

Ridiculously good, juicy dripping seitan chicken wings, scrumptious classic Philly cheesesteak on a light and fluffy sub roll, and amazing pizza. All wrapped up in a quaint, punk rock playing, basic spot with lovely tattood vegans. So good I had to buy a T-shirt to Support!

Stopped by here and got 2 slices of plain “cheese” pizza and my (nonvegan) aunt got 1 slice of the funghi pizza. My aunt is the polar opposite of vegan and loved the pizza so much she wanted another slice! The food was so good and there were so many options, as well as an amazing vegan donut shop next door! It was so heart warming to see a 100% vegan place so packed.

I was in Philly for 5 days and made a heroic effort to try all of the vegan establishments in and around the downtown area. This was by far my favorite. I had a slice of the haymaker and the philly cheese steak. The haymaker slice was out of this world. The seitan sausage, onions, and cheez gave this pizza a nice array of flavors and textures. The slice was also reasonably priced; I think it was $3.50 for a giant serving that could make a lunch all on its own. Yet I was foolhardy enough to get a cheese steak as well. The cheese steak took a while longer to come out, but I didn’t mind, because I was doing some work and needed some time to savor the pizza slice. When the sandwich came out, it was overflowing with ‘steak’, onions, and wiz—a delightful mess. I’d highly recommend coming here.

Look Past the Pizza (if you can) - Edit
Okay, so most days the pizza hits the spot, that doesn't seem to be up for debate. But what I've come to love on this menu isn't the pizza or even the wings, but the sandwiches. My favorite is the Cubano because it is so full of flavor and can fill you up more than a slice of pizza.

I’d heard on a podcast how nice this place is. We came here for dinner and chose 5 pieces of pizza between us. The flavours were great and I was glad they had the slices named so I could work out what to choose. Staff were friendly.

I recently traveled to Philadelphia for the first time and I had to stop by to see what the fuss was all about. It was hard to decide, but I ordered a slice of their plain vegan cheese pizza and the root beer BBQ wings. So good!! It was my first time trying Violife and I'm hooked. I wasn't overly impressed with the wings but I would try the other two flavors for sure (it could've just been the sauce). I will definitely be back and might even check out their other location in Northern Liberties.

Two “Blackbirds” With One Stone - Edit
I googled vegan restaurants during a trip to South St one day as I was craving pizza. We were not familiar with the area so we decided to just make it work on our route. To our surprise they have the best vegan pizza I’ve ever tasted as well as being literally around the corner from our final destination. It couldn’t have worked out any better. Now we go to Philly with the intentions of eating pizza before South St enters our mind. We even go back after our shopping and order a whole pie to take back to Jersey.

This was my first all vegan restaurant since transitioning to veganism, and it did not disappoint. I was visiting Philly on family vacation and I'm the only vegan but I enjoyed the city and its offerings. I only had the pizza but it was amazing and I took a whole one back all for myself. I regret not trying everything.

We had already eaten at another vegan place for lunch, so only went there for a desert to take out, I got the chocolate mouse....So good!!!.....Although I didn't eat anything else there the pizzas behind the counter all looked amazing!....The place is quite small and from the outside it's easy to miss as there not much signage..... The staff were really friendly, and it was a popular place. Will definitely be going back to try the pizza!
