Wondrous food & atmosphere - Edit
It was a cold and rainy day in late March, we were desperately hungry and we had been walking in the streets of Bratislava for a couple of hours trying to find proper, meat-free food in this city where, for some suspicious reason, most places were closed on Saturday evening. And the HappyCow map then guided us to a dark alley (it was late, and rainy) where we found this oasis of bright lights and delicious smells.
Read moreLuckily there was one free table just waiting for us, and otherwise the place was packed full and right after us more people came in and had to wait for a table. We ordered vegan burgers and boy! were they tasty! We had tasted several vegan burgers in different European cities before, but none compared to the burgers ate got at Balans Bistro.
The next day we came back to eat here once more before we left the city and once again the food was spot-on and the customer service was just perfect. The atmosphere is a little like a cozy living room, quite small but very comfy. Loved it.
Pros: Food, Atmosphere
Cons: Might have to wait for a table (if no reservation)

Best gluten free & vegan burger ever - Edit
A super cute and cozy small restaurant. Great staff and atmosphere. Ate the same burger on both days I was in Bratislava, it was the best burger I have ever had (and it was gluten free and vegan). Great quality for your money! Small place, so might be full, would recommend reserving seats atlest for bigger groups. I might visit Bratislava again only to have a burger again in this place!

Well Priced Delicious Food - Edit
I have tried both the quesadilla and 'no-cheese' sandwich. Both options were amazing in flavour! Very rich and very flavourful. A lot more filling than it looks. It's well priced and you go away full!
Read moreOnly issue is it's so small you don't always find a seat. Best to visit outside the busiest meal times.
They also have a daily menu, it's written in Slovak on the board but it includes a soup + main and worth asking about!
Pros: Hearty Portions, Reasonable Prices, Daily Menu
Cons: Too small

horrible place - Edit
We really liked the place in the beginning but in the third time we went there we have a problem with places and the restaurant didn’t help us. We felt really bad and ashamed in the restaurant. The food is tasty but the staff are awful. Don’t go there!!

I ate the Balans Burger with chips and got the mushroom quesadillas for take away. Both were amazing! Lots of sauce on the burger and a big pattie :).

soooo delicious - Edit
Two of my friends recommended this place so me and my (carnivore) cousin decided to go there for dinner. And oh my god! This place exceeded my expectations. I went for balans burger with fries. The burger was yummy and their homemade fries were so delicious. My cousin had the sandwich and it was so good. The sides of mayo and coleslaw were so tasty. Everything was good! I got a bounty cake to takeaway as we had to leave and it didn’t disappoint, I only wish I bought a slice of the other walnut cake as well haha. 100% recommend this place

Amazing place! - Edit
Everything was so delicious, we tried the champignon quesadilla and the Mexico burger and it was really good. We also had the fries and some strawberry cake. Besides everyone was really nice, brought the food quickly, and the food was really cheap.

pleasant surprise on the road - Edit
We were starving and decided to take a break for lunch in Bratislava on our way to Italy and we took HappyCow recommendations seriously and it was a good choice ! We had the soup of the day which was Mexican lentil soup with avocado and tortilla chips, seitan wrap and a Mexican burger. The soup was delicious, slightly spicy and filling. By the time we got our main course we were already full. My burger was very good, slightly falling apart so I ate it with utensils:) home fries very tasty. The wrap was also flavorful . Overall we were so full we skipped the desert :) friendly staff speaking English. The downside -cash only. Luckily we had some cash on us (unlike in Berlin where we had to go on an atm quest :))

Best vegan junk in Bratislava - Edit
If you have not vegan friends take them here. This bistro fights all stereotypes about tasteless boring vegan food. Honestly it's not healthy fitness choice especially in the evening without daily menu but you will enjoy every bite. And also your not (yet) vegan friends will be very surprised in the best possible way.

Best Vegan restaurant in Bratislava - Edit
Without a doubt, this is the best vegan restaurant in the city. Daily menu is always good. All of the burgers are delicious. They even offer great desserts. My favorites are the veg-dogs, they're such an amazingly balanced comfort food ❤ and the double sandwich, just lovely flavours. This place never disappointes.

Wonderful - Edit
With my phone service not working properly (on a phone that was nearly dead), stomach growling, nose running and legs protesting, I was absolutely delighted to step into this place. As I tend to when entering a vegan restaurant in a foreign city/country, I immediately felt at 'home'. The décor is great, the staff are helpful, the food is delicious (and, compared to Vienna prices, shockingly affordable), the interesting drink options are plentiful, the location is good and the WiFi is fast. The staff don't speak fluent English, but hey, this isn't an English-speaking country! They do do their best, though, which is nice. I also like that they offer several veganised Slovak dishes, even if they're not quite up my alley (the one I had was fried). Highly recommended. I'd gladly pay the 5€ train fare from Vienna just to eat there again...in fact, I might just do so tomorrow!

December 2017 update: Sadly I was unaware that they were just about to celebrate their 365th day of being open the following day (d'oh!), but I once again had a delighful experience whilst in town during my 'birthday weekend', enjoying their daily specials of Thai coconut soup and seitan souvlaki, both of which seemed so lovingly and expertly seasoned and prepared. It warmed my heart to see how busy the place was on a Saturday afternoon (which is a good job, as it also meant I had to make a few rounds about the vicinity in the bitter cold!), and I can't wait for what gastronomic pleasures my next visit brings. One thing is certainly: it won't be too far off from now! 😊
(P.S. - If this place alone isn't enough to visit Bratislava, they've got the most well-stocked vegan shop I've ever visited; I love my dear Maran Vegan, but it seriously puts Vienna to shame.)
Pros: English menu (staff do their best to speak it too), Plenty of veganised traditional dishes, The prices are incredible
