Serves meat, vegan options available. Ethiopian and Caribbean restaurant with several veg-suitable items like spiced vegetables, lentils, peas. Reggae on weekends. Reported closed January 2023.
My wife and I discovered Awaze on HappyCow and couldn't be more satisfied. The atmosphere is cozy and neighborly. The servers were warm and friendly and VERY helpful and accommodating. The combination of both Ethiopian and Caribbean fare made the journey even more interesting. The were very willing to find a spice level that suited our taste. A nice addition to the vegan-friendly scene in KCMO.
Good food, crappy owner. Owner doesn’t understand personal space - Edit
Owner kissed the back of my neck while I was waiting in line at a concert. I didn’t even know he was there. He did not have permission. I never have gotten an apology even though technically he sexually assaulted me. Haven’t been back there and never will be back.
Neither the injera nor the Sambusas are made there - the sambusas are frozen, too. AND they use a microwave. YIKES.
More vegan friendly than I expected with items I normally only find in all-vegan restaurants (such as cupcakes). The staff were knowledgable of vegan concerns. All or nearly all of the vegetarian options were also vegan, and there were quite a few. Creative menu. Perhaps the best injera I've ever had and definitely the best in KC. We came on a night with live music and poetry. It was a great atmosphere and very pleasant evening out!
