AMAZING! - Edit

Sometimes, you want a "not so healthy" burger with the "vegan" stamp on it. You can have it here! The burger was amazingly delicious, even better than a meat burger. We took the Bac'n Cheese Burger, which has homemade bacon in it. The fries were also YUM, our favorite kind.

It was around 4pm, cold and cloudy, on a Thursday afternoon, and no one else were there except us.
The little negative side note is that we said "hello" to the guy working there when we arrived, but he didn't respond...Not sure if he heard us, but he never said hi anyway...a little rude. I give 5 stars anyway, because the food is the most important to me.

Pros: Delicious food, Greasy burger, Small crispy fries

Another Bland Austin Vegan Option - Edit

Why is vegan/vegetarian food so bad in Austin? I mean this is not to say that it’s not edible. But seriously, if I am going to go out to eat and spend money for a place such as Arlo’s, that isn’t cheap, it should be pretty f***ing amazing. I don’t want to be eating something that I could have made better in my own kitchen. I’ve been vegetarian for 20 years now (vegan for 2) and moved to Austin from another state. What strikes me about all the vegan/vegetarian places is that when you start to eat the food served, it’s more than obvious that you’re eating a veggie patty or some other fake version of meat. Typically if I go to a vegan/vegetarian restaurant, I’m taking a meat eating friend with me to show them that eating vegan/vegetarian is just as good if not better than what they would have had with animal flesh. I want them to say to me “are you sure this isn’t meat” like a carnivore friend of mine said to me when I took him to the Bodhi Tree (not in Texas). And, he was genuinely sincere as he bit in to the Crispy “Chicken,” eyes lighting up as he questioned what he’d just ate.

When one bites into the burger at Arlo’s, it’s oh so grainy like the old school Garden Burgers of the 90’s with a taste that is rather bland to say at best. At $8 bucks for a burger, you’re better off spending $6 bucks for a 4 pack of Fieldroast vegan burgers from Whole Foods and serving them to your friends. For the same price you can serve 4 of your friends and not only will they be questioning if it wasn’t a real burger that they just ate, but so will you because it’s that good. Arlo’s on the other hand, I guess if you’re vegan and in a pinch and have to eat out, you can at least eat there being fully aware that you’re eating a vegan burger with every dry grainy bite of your hard spent $8 dollars. To all the vegan/vegetarian places in Austin, you seriously need to up your game. Check out places like Native Foods, Wheel of Life or the Bodhi Tree to get an idea of how good vegan food can really be.

Pros: You know it's vegan for sure

Cons: You know it's vegan for sure

Best veggie burger on the planet - Edit

Arlo's definitely has the best veggie burger on the planet. As a gluten free vegan I didn't expect to be very impressed but it is amazing. The burger tastes very real but not disgusting like beef. The patties are made from scratch in their kitchen and use lentils as the base giving it a ton of flavor and making it filling. The burgers are very most but not soggy. The cheese melted on top sells it, though. Paired with a side of tater tots or fries this will be your new favorite place!

A good tip is that if you have a weak stomach like me, get the burger without cheese. That stuff makes it super heavy.

FYI, this location at Cheer Up Charlie's is in the heart of downtown and only has a few parking spots. Be ready to pay for parking, take a rideshare or walk. It is also the busiest location, so if you're driving I would recommend going to the Grackle or Spiderhouse locations to get your food much faster and to have a higher chance at finding close parking.

Pros: Rated the #1 veggie burger in the world, Hip Austin location in between Mohawk and Stubbs, Very filling

Cons: Incredibly unhealthy, No parking, Very busy/long wait on weekend nights

THE VEGAN COMFORT FOOD YOU NEED - Edit

We all need those mega vegan cheat days and Arlo’s is the perfect place to do that. I had a “bacon cheese burger” and “Mac and cheese” and it was so incredible and authentic! Arlo’s doesn’t short cut anything; they don’t compromise taste. Would recommend to any vegan/non-vegan. Definitely the best vegan burger and Mac n cheese I’ve ever had! And of course, it is always great to go to a 100% vegan eatery and not have to worry about a thing while ordering.

Pros: 100% vegan, incredible taste, great comfort food

Delish - Edit

My favorite thing about Happy Cow is it points you to the best spots when traveling. Bac'n Cheeze burger with tots. Definitely not diet food. Could have been worse, they have a Frito pie burger. Maybe tomorrow.

Simply Amazing - Edit

This place was really good. I'm not a burger person but we came for my boyfriend and he said it tasted exactly like what he remembers a burger tasting like! I had Frito Pie on their specials menu and it was delicious as well! They had a really good sauce on top. I also liked how this place was easier to park at then a few other food trucks in town.

Pros: Delicious food, Easier Parking for the city

Cons: none

Arlo's Bac'n Cheeze Burger is Excellent! - Edit

I visited Arlo's for the first time recently but I have been wanting to try it for a long time. Arlo's is plant based food. I had the Bac'n Cheeze Burger and home made fries. Both very good selections. That burger is among the best I have ever had anywhere. I will try other selections as well, next time. It's nice to have a choice of plant based options. Guy behind the counter was helpful and pleasant. Arlo's is parked at Spiderhouse and they will let you eat your meal at Spiderhouse. Nice ambiance.

Bummed out - Edit

I've heard and read such a good things about this place, except couple negative ones about the hours they're open, that I couldn't wait to go and try it. But even I got there, Monday at around 7pm, the truck was closed. They're supposed to be open 1200-0200, I believe. Couple hungry people that came to eat as well left confused before me, asking if the place is open. Finally someone showed up, not for work though, said there's a party somewhere and so they're not open today. Would be nice if they informed people on their website about such things. So yes, unfortunately reviews about non existing, or not set hours they're supposed to be open are true. Went To Counter Culture after that, for the very first time (I'm relatively new to Texas), and it was amazing. Food was great, service was friendly, even customers were super friendly, trying to recommend things off the menu. So If Arlo's happens to be closed again and you have no place to eat, go to counter Culture. You'll be amazed.

respectanimals2 24 Apr 2017 - I wouldn't have given them a bad review for this as it does not reflect on their food. Some of these small businesses don't have the resources to update websites as often as we would like, but because I know that, I would cut them slack. Maybe you want to reconsider after you have tried the excellent food?

Delicious and awesome staff! - Edit

This food competes with all the best vegan places we've been to around the country, especially the bacon cheeze burger. The staff (Shane) was friendly, helpful, and went out of his way to suggest additional vegan options to us. (We're from Chicago).

WHOA!!! - Edit

CAN'T. BEGIN. TO. DESCRIBE. HOW. BLOWN. AWAY. I. WAS. WITH. THIS. PLACE!!! I've been a vegan for a while now, on a mostly plant based whole foods diet. I really can't recall what meat/animal products taste like. Until I ate at Arlo's. I had the bac'n cheeze burger. I had to go up to the window and confirm that it was actually vegan. If you're looking for something that mimics the animal proteins that you once craved, this is the only place I've been to that does that so superbly. Very incredible feat in my opinion.

Hands Down the Best Vegan Burger I've Ever Had - Edit

The Bacon Cheese Burger is a must for anyone, especially vegans who struggle to find a decent veggie burger. I've had veggie burgers around Austin that I've enjoyed but they were all so obviously a veggie burger. If you're ever in the mood to pig out, get the Bacon Cheese Burger and the Chili Cheese Fries (I got mine over sweet potato fries). I went there twice within two weeks because it is just so delicious. If you're in Austin and you're hungry for some vegan fast food, go to Arlo's, you will definitely go again.

Pros: Excellent Food, Good Value

Cons: Hidden
