Another sad breakfast at Anthem - Edit

I really want to like this place but it’s now been 3 strikes. Had the big house hash from their breakfast menu today and the potatoes were undercooked and the broccoli and cauliflower were flat out raw. The tofu and “Anthem Karne” were so bland I couldn’t have more than a few bites. 3 stars because I was able to salvage mine at home by cooking it another 10 minutes and adding some much needed salt, pepper and garlic.

Pros: Diverse menu

Cons: Bland, Undercooked vegetables

This place is scrumptious and delectable. A vast variety of veganlicious choices. I’m full as was everyone else who ate with me. The wait staff was friendly and my drink was never dry. I highly recommend this place.

Pros: lots of choices, nice portions, friendly atmosphere

great menu options - Edit

Been wanting to try this place since my last couple trips to San Diego. Finally got my chance. The menu is great, such variety. Love the market, also. Too bad I could only try three things.

I agree with Vegan25’s review on the Philly cheesesteak. Couldn’t salt and pepper it enough to make it good.

Pros: market, desserts, easy parking

Great for ex-meat lovers - Edit

I’m obsessed with this place. Loved their pop-up and was thrilled when I found out they were opening a restaurant. I’ve gone several times since it’s opened and love it every time, and I typically always try something new. Also their desserts are DELICIOUS!

Pros: Delicious, All vegan

Cons: Not healthy

Amazing, huge portions! - Edit

We got the chicken avocado wrap, which was really good and mosty! We ordered one each, but could only finish half of it. So now we have one with us to share later on 👍😁 You get good value for money! The noise level in the back was really high unfortunately. We got to sit by the window in the opposite end of the restaurant, which was really nice 😊

Pros: Huge portions, good value for money, Friendly staff, Tasty

Cons: Noise level

Excellent Vegan fast food - Edit

Everything I’ve tried is cracking. Caution⚠️ The Reaper fries creep up in heat; after about two hours. Eat while fresh.

everything was great! - Edit

I brought my grandparents (scared of vegan food, never had anything vegan before) and my best friend to Anthem for a birthday celebration. We had the insanity spuds as an appetizer to share and everyone loved them! I had the soy-cal burrito (AMAZING), my best friend had the pulled porque sandwich, my grandma had the cucumber salad (because she was scared of “fake meat”), and my grandpa had the north porker. Everyone loved everything! We all tried all the different meals and even my grandparents loved it all! Amazing waitress and service 🤗

Pros: food, service, staff

Cons: wait time

Meh - Edit

We went to Anthem a couple of weeks ago. My girls were so excited to go. Ordered sandwiches. We were all underwhelmed. The seitan was flavorless, like it was just boiled, sliced, and put on a roll. It needed sautéing with onions or spices., something. It’s a blank slate. Not enough sauce or cheese or condiments in general. So dry. We will go back to give it another chance, maybe order something that’s not a sandwich and not supposed to be “beef. I ordered the philly cheesesteak I felt bad because I’ve only heard great things, but it wasn’t a great experience.

Pros: Great parking, Friendly staff, Easy commute

Cons: No flavor, Not enough sauce or cheese, Dry

Love the Restaurant on El Cajon Blvd. - Edit

Great food and nice atmosphere. I took my 82 non Vegan Mother and her 80 year old non Vegan friend here and they loved it. My Mom had the French dip, Her friend had the peanut butter burger and I had the smokehouse burger. All came with delicious fries.

My husband came on the grand opening and had the gluten free tacos-- uniquely delicious.

Pros: Friendly, quick service, Great atmosphere, Great food

Cons: They may need more tables instead of the groceries, Looking forward to more hours coming, Looking forward to expanded menu

Sandwiches, tacos, burritos - oh my! - Edit

Anthem offers flavorful sandwiches, tacos and burritos with amazing mock meats and gluten free options. We love their burritos, the Karne Asada Sandwich and anything with the poyo (mock chicken). The owner is a stand-up guy and they care about their customers. Catch them on the weekends for special breakfast items. Ask for the secret burrito to have your socks knocked off. Pro-tip, all burritos taste really amazing after being in the fridge over night, so go ahead and order yourself an extra for tomorrow's breakfast.

Pros: Fully vegan, incredible mock meats, Super friendly staff, Big portions, tacos come with two tortillas

Frequent Customer - Edit

I love stopping by Anthem Vegan whenever I get the chance. I usually get one of two items: the avocado chicken wrap or the soycal burrito. The food is delicious, but sometimes I wish the portions were bigger. The staff is really cool and the service is quick. I love bringing my friends to their locations because they are a great example of delicious cruelty-free food.

Pros: Quick Service, Friendly Staff, Great Food

Worth the Search! - Edit

Pro tip: they move their tent to various locations throughout the week, so be sure you know where they are when you want some of the best vegan food there is in San Diego.

The portions are generous, the prices are cheap, and the food is amazing!
My favorite is the gangster wrap. It is tasty, and it has some kick to it!

Best Vegan Food at any Farmer's Market! - Edit

Hands down my favorite menu item is the Chicken Avocado Wrap. I crave it!

I also appreciate how well Anthem keeps its fans up to date on social media so we know where they'll be and the best way to find them but it would be nice if I could enjoy their food more often as it's hard for me to make it to their events.

Pros: Excellent food , Good Value , Friendly Staff

Love Anthem! - Edit

I take a walk down to the Hillcrest Farmer's market sometimes on a Sunday, just to get food from Anthem. Everything I've had was very delicious. The steak n bleu, the biscuits and gravy and the spicy chicken wrap are favorites. The staff is very friendly and I like that they make your food to order.

Pros: Tasty, They now deliver

Cons: They are not located next door to me!

Found this place in a Hillcrest Farmers Market a few months ago. Owner was very nice and food had huge portions. Great for those vegetarians who don't want to eat like birds. Had a burrito with veggie steak, potatoes and a ton of veggies. Couldn't finish it all. Perfect food for Adventist vegetarians. Check it out!!

Pros: Portion size , Cost, Friendly service

Hail to Anthem! - Edit

I recently hosted a San Diego Vegan meetup for nearly 30 enthusiastic vegans at Ritual Tavern (4095 30th), where Anthem Vegan provides inexpensive, delicious, and filling entrees every Monday from 6p-9p. Patrick Murray, Anthem's enterprising owner, also currently sets up at Hillcrest Farmers Market (Sun 9a-2p, University & Normal), the SPCA (Tue 11a-2p, 5500 Gaines), OB Farmers Market (Wed 4p-7p, 8p in summer, Newport & Cable), and North Park (Fri/Sat 11p-2:30a, 30th & Lincoln).

Pros: Huge portions, Inexpensive, Delicious
