Delicious bangers and mash!

Had a wonderful lunch with the vegetarian bangers and mash, collard greens and a beer. Bangers and mash was absolutely delicious, sausage was tasty, firm, grilled well and served over mashed potatoes with a mushroom gravy. Collards were very tender and garlicky! Service was quick and servers were very friendly. Was spendy, but if you don’t mind treating yourself go for it!

Pros: Delicious food, Beer

Cons: Spendy lunch

Overpriced

$18 for vegan fish and chips which was just Gardein fish strips and fries. A cozy bar that’s good for drinks, lots of vegan sausage options, but overpriced for what it’s worth!

Great British Pub food

My family was visiting from Ohio. They are not vegan and often like “comfort “ food. I was excited to try this place because it looked like there were lots of options. I had the vegan bangers and mash. The waitress was pleasant and had no problems taking my order. The food was so delicious! Sometimes faux sausage makes me feel a little off hours later but nope not here! I throughly enjoyed the meal and didn’t regret it later . It is a smaller space and gets busy so if you have a large party be patient! It’s well worth it .

Pros: Lots of options, Delicious! , Nice staff

Basic Bar Food Overpriced

We both ordered fish and chips. I ordered the vegan version. It wasn’t bad, but it tasted exactly the same as the garden vegan fish and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was. The fries that came with were nothing exceptional. The tartar sauce was homemade and pretty good. The location and vibe of the bar was great but the food was over priced for what you get. Overall, decent food just over priced and a nice vibe if that’s what you’re going for.

Pros: Cool bar area

Cons: Overpriced , Very few vegan options

not very vegan-friendly.

Hubs and I were excited to find a British pub in DC, especially one that had vegan and vegetarian options on the menu. Sadly, the atmosphere is not very vegan friendly due to a bartender with poor people skills who made us feel like a major inconvenience to him for our interest in vegan options. they were out of the vegan fish and chips on the menu, which seems to be a common occurrence, from other reviews I have read. that left us with the Cubano sandwich and tikka masala to choose from. Hubby and I split a spinach salad and ordered two vegetarian Cubano sandwiches with portobello mushrooms, hold the Gouda. The entire tab, including a beer for hubby, came to $40 plus tip.

Pros: great vegetarian Cubano Sandwich, good location.

Cons: rude bartender

cosy and friendly

Very happy to find a pint with bangers and chips (or mash) on a snowy evening. It's tucked away but a very nice place to spend an evening. My food was good - and when they put the vegan fish and chips on the menu it'll be great! Interesting options, especially for vegetarians.

Nice grub, cosy environment

Sadly they were out of the vegan fish and chips but the Tikka Masala was nice. I asked for medium spice but it didn’t seem to have any spice but was still nice. My husband enjoyed the bangers and mash, the mash was especially tasty. We’d go back if we happen to be in the area. No vegan desserts sadly.

Veg options British style

How many British pubs exist in DC, let alone ones with vegan items? Well, that's the selling point for coming to The Alibi. It's a cute little spot off the main downtown area. There's a ton of outdoor seating, and some indoor seating.

The menu has a few salads and veggie sides that can be veganized. Appetizers include sweet potato fries and chili, guacamole and chips (regular potato fries). There are also sandwiches that can be made w mushrooms or other substitutes like the Cubans, BBQ, sausage and fish sandwiches. They have a house-made vegan black bean sausage, too. Random, but good, a coconut based curry dish with basmati rice. The ginger soda is tasty.

The beer and drink offerings are pretty good too.

Pros: Marks V for veg , Sweet potato fries

Cons: V is vegetarian but not necessarily vegan

Nice small place for a bite

Really nice little pub. The waitress was very knowledgeable about vegan options and told us about everything we could order. Ended up with the vegan Fish and Chips, which actually freaked us out to be honest. We were reassured that the tartar sauce was made with vegenaise, so we were able to enjoy our meal. Some reviews state that the "fish" is house made, but we were pretty convinced that is was Gardein based on taste and appearance. Doesn't bother me any, it was really good either way!

Pros: Nice pub, Knowledgeable staff, Good food

Cons: None

If only...

I was very pleased to find an authentic British pub in the heart of Washington DC.
They serve mostly meat but have at least half a dozen vegan options!
They have homemade vegan fish and sausages. The vegan fish and chips is a must try. Don't miss out the malt vinegar for those chips.
Love the takeaway containers they provide for unfinished food, microwavable and washable. They even put in plasticware plus salt and pepper. so thoughtful of them.

Excellent find

Well located near the Capitol and National Art Gallery. I had the vegan fish sandwich and the vegetarian sausage rolls, both were very good. Service was also excellent even though I was outside on a cold, rainy day.

Pros: Food, Service

Get the vegetarian fish and chips!

Tastes like the real thing! Can be done vegan (no trader sauce) as well.
