Amazing vegan platter

My first visit back after lockdown. This used to be a regular spot for me so I was pleased that it still has the same high quality platter. Vegan dishes are very limited but it’s well worth the trip for what they do have. Very informal space, decent value.

Lovely Ethiopian

Great vegan platter that fed three of us (space in the middle for an additional dish as it will typically have a meat dish) no alcohol but cheap dishes though not much variety. Lovely coffee but the owner keep going downstairs so i wasn’t able to discuss much about the coffee ceremony or vegan curries.

Pros: Good price for platter, Amazing food

Cons: Two options, Limited drinks

Great food

Although there are only two vegan dishes on the menu, I did not go hungry. The food was fantastic and so tasty. One word of warning though, one dish could feed two people. I am not joking. I struggled to eat it all and came away feeling very happy and very full. The staff were so welcoming, friendly and attentive and it was a really nice evening. The owner came to say hello and make sure the food was OK (it was better than ok, it was great). Obviously, I would have loved to have seen more vegetarian and vegan options, but to be honest, I would definitely order the Beyaynetu again, as it comes with a selection of stews on the injera flat bread and I loved them all. Obviously this is a cultural as well as a culinary experience, as you eat using the injera flatbread with your hands and the friend who went with me wasn't sure about that bit at first, but quickly got used to it and soon was singing the praises of what he was eating.

Pros: Seriously delicious food. Huge portions, Reasonably priced

Cons: Just two vegetarian/vegan options on the menu.

Really fun and different

Such a lovely welcome from (presumably) the owner. He was really helpful and answered all our questions.

Food was fun and presented on a huge platter! It would have been nice if the bread was warmed up but perhaps that's not traditional.

Good value for the huge amount of food. Only wish there were more vegan options as we're unlikely to go again until there is something new for us to try!

Great service, fantastic food

I visited Abyssinia with some vegan friends, we shared two large dishes of traditional Ethiopian bread topped with different veg dishes. They were delicious! We couldn't finish it all, which is a rarity for me! After, we had fresh coffee and were brought a big bowl of popcorn to share. The staff here are lovely, the serving of the meal and the coffee is quite a performance! The food was very reasonably priced. The restaurant is not licenced - but there is a shop over the road which sells alcohol! There is not much choice of vegan food, just the tasting platter and a stew (which is also part of the platter), but I was happy with what I had. I am glad I ventured out of the city centre to visit, I would like to eat here again.

Pros: Tasty food, Excellent service, Good price

Cons: Small vegan menu, Location
