I noticed that in a book of his (memorie di un pazzo, italian title), he refers to an awful taste by saying "as If i had eaten meat". That's what made me wonder if he was a vegetarian. I'll keep doing my research though!

Where did you find Flaubert was a vegetarian? Many vegan & vegetarian sites quote him, but none brings any document to prove it. Is it only a rumor? I only found this study (in french) about the animality in Flaubert's work: flaubert.univ-rouen.fr/revue/article.php?id=44

Flaubert's Madame Bovary was a required reading in my high school English class. Not sure why anymore.
