Two wide canvas bands are laid over one another at the toe, opening into a peep at the front and cut away at the sides, so the shoe sits low across the foot and shows plenty of it. There's no fastening anywhere: you step in and it stays. The whole design reads as one clean gesture rather than a set of parts. Underneath is traditional espadrille construction: a wedge of coiled and braided jute rope, stitched to the upper the way it's been done in Spain for generations. Jute is a fibre derived from the stem of the jute plant, known for its strength and versatility. A thin TR outsole is bonded beneath for grip where the rope meets the pavement. The rope gives a low lift at the heel and a pale, fibrous, handmade-looking texture against the flat weave of the canvas. Inside, a built-in cushioned footbed topped with soft vegan leather (100% PU) sits between your foot and the jute, so there's padding where a traditional espadrille would give you none. There's no shank and no structure to break in: the build is soft and flexible and moves as you do. You should find these comfy straight out of the box. The canvas upper is soft and tightly woven, made from 100% polyester. It's breathable and light, so you can wear them with or without socks. In Marine, you get the crisp navy-and-jute contrast that's the classic summer combination. Wear them the way espadrilles want to be worn: with wide linen trousers, a cotton midi, a slip skirt, denim shorts or a loose white shirt. Keep the jute sole as dry as you can: don't soak or machine-wash them, as heavy wetting can loosen the jute. Stuff with paper to hold their shape while drying, and store somewhere cool and dry between wears.
