## Washi Matou Waffle Towel German engineering meets Japanese craftsmanship. Two traditional brands, thies 1856® and Fukuroya Towel 1926®, join forces to bring you towels and household goods made in Japan. Wabi-Sabi Zen at its finest. Because the climate in Japan is humid, washi, with its great breathability, has long been used for shoji screens and loved as a partition to organize living spaces. By twisting washi into thread and weaving a towel from it, the result is a towel that absorbs water and dries quickly. ### What is washi thread? Washi thread is made by cutting paper produced on a unique Japanese paper machine into 1-4 mm wide strands and twisting them into thread. The paper is made from bark, and the raw material of the paper is hemp. This porous material has small holes on the surface. Because it contains a lot of air, it dries easily and feels smooth to the touch. Washi thread has excellent hygroscopicity: it absorbs not only water but also moisture from the air. ### The waffle weave The three-dimensional waffle fabric absorbs water well, thanks to the combination of washi threads and a special weaving method. The textured waffle weave has a large surface area that touches the skin, making it even more absorbent. Because it is thin and uneven, it creates air layers and is easy to dry even after it gets really wet. Whether after washing or during sports, you won't feel the discomfort of using a wet towel. Towels made only with washi thread are usually hard, difficult to stretch and rough in texture. That is why the Washi Matou towels blend washi thread with cotton, which softens the towels. The waffle weave also greatly improves softness and volume, making the towel fluffy and voluminous. Washi waffle towels are easy to dry, and the washi paper does not retain odors. ### About the brands These towels are dyed in soft hues that bring a calm touch to your home. Since 1856, the thies team has been fascinated by Japanese culture and traditional crafts. When they came across the Shizuku project, it was a natural decision to work together and bring this project to Europe. Fukuroya was established in 1926 in the Izumi region, Osaka's largest towel production area. Over nearly a century, Fukuroya has continually improved its techniques and planning skills to create soft, highly absorbent towels. ### Composition - 55% cotton - 20% washi - 25% cotton ### Size - Dimensions: 34 cm × 35 cm (size S) Origin: made in Japan ### Care Wash below 30 °C.
