## Washi Matou Waffle Towel German engineering meets Japanese craftsmanship! Two traditional brands, thies 1856® and Fukuroya Towel 1926®, join forces to bring you towels and household goods made in Japan. Wabi-Sabi Zen at its finest. Because the climate in Japan is humid, washi, with great breathability, has been used for shoji screens and has long been loved as a partition to organize living spaces. By spinning washi into thread and weaving a towel from it, we managed to obtain a towel that absorbs water faster than cotton and dries quickly. It is an essential product for a comfortable life! Washi thread is made by cutting the paper made by Japan's unique paper machine into 1-4 mm wide strands and twisting them into thread. Washi thread is made of bark and absorbs water faster than cotton. This porous material has small holes on the surface, and because it contains a lot of air, it dries easily and feels smooth to the touch. **The three-dimensional and thick waffle fabric absorbs water well, thanks to the unique combination of washi threads and a special weaving method.** The textured waffle weave has a large surface area that touches the skin, making it even more water absorbent. Because it is thin and uneven, it creates air layers and is easy to dry even after it gets really wet. Not only when you wash it, but even when you use it while playing sports, you won't feel the discomfort of using a wet towel! Japanese shoji screens and fusuma doors are traditionally made from plant-derived washi paper, which is said to have deodorizing and temperature-regulating properties. Washi thread made from such paper has excellent hygroscopicity: it absorbs not only water but also moisture in the air, making it difficult to get humid. If you leave classic towels wet for a while, bacteria will grow and the smell will remain. Washi waffle towels are easy to dry, and the Japanese paper does not retain odors. Our Washi Matou towels are made by blending cotton fiber with washi thread. This thread is an original twisted thread. Towels made only with Japanese washi thread are usually hard and difficult to stretch, with a rough texture. By making it a waffle weave, the softness and volume are greatly improved! The waffle weave makes the towel fluffy, soft and voluminous, while the thin fabric helps it dry quickly. These towels are uniquely dyed in soft hues. Since 1856 the thies team has always been fascinated by Japanese culture and traditional crafts. So when they came across the Shizuku project, it was a natural fit to work together and bring this project to Europe. Fukuroya was established in 1926 in Osaka's largest towel production area, the Izumi region. Over the course of nearly a century, Fukuroya has continually adopted and improved its techniques and planning skills to create soft, highly absorbent towels.
