Feel like in paradise 🌺🌱

Extensive review of our stay and the dishes we had

ACCOMMODATION:
Deluxe Suite with Kingsize Bed

We stayed in the hut 🛖 up in the air and loved it! Sure, there are cracks in the wood and some insects, but it’s the jungle overall. The shower sometimes caused minor flooding, but it dried quickly. The bathroom isn’t soundproof. Overall, it was very comfortable, and the area with all the flowers and plants is beautifully designed. ⭐ 5 stars, even 6 if I could!

GENERAL:
❗ The restaurant isn’t fully vegan, so specify “VEGANO” when ordering.
❗🌱🧀 Vegan cheese was unavailable during our 4-night stay, despite asking daily, so we missed trying some dishes.

FOOD:
🌯 YAY Burrito – 32k ✅ Recommended
Rich filling with great flavor. Came with two sauces—avocado dip and cocktail-like sauce. Very filling, highly recommended.

🍛 Roti Payasam – 38k ❌ Not Recommended
Disappointing. Lentil dal tasted sweet, like dessert, and the potato samosa was more like basic potato soup—not authentic Indian.

🍛 Caribbean Curry – 34k ✅ Recommended
Creamy and delicious, served with lime for acidity. Could use more salt, but it can be adjusted at the table.

🎃 Roasted Pumpkin Canoe – 35k ✅ Recommended
Smoky pumpkin with an orange sauce—something new for us and absolutely delicious!

🍟 Fries – 13k ✅ Recommended
Best value for a snack. Big portion with vegan aioli. Fries could use more salt.

🥖🥑 Sourdough Toast with Guacamole – 25k
〰️ Okay
Small bites with creamy avo. Good homemade bread, but a small portion for the price. Toasting the bread would make it better.

🍌🍫 Bananas in Chocolate Sauce – 15k
〰️ Okay
Bananas were good, though the chocolate was slightly bitter. Good quality chocolate.

🍫 Twix Bar – 19k ❌ Not Recommended
Tasted more like a moist cookie. Small portion, not crunchy as expected.

🥟 Popocho Croquettes – 21k ✅ Recommended
Crispy outside, soft inside with a bean-like filling. Sauerkraut on top added great acidity.

🧇 Tropical Waffles – 31k ✅ Recommended
Huge portion with generous toppings. Tasty, though more coconut yogurt would help as the granola was a bit dry without it.

🍝 Pasta Pesto – 32k ❌ Not Recommended
Vegan cheese was missing, and the parmesan tasted too much like the real thing, which I didn’t enjoy. Portion was small.

🫔 Tamal de mi Terra – 35k ✅ Recommended
A unique and flavorful dish. The different elements worked well together, and the sun-dried tomatoes were fantastic. Good portion.

Juices/Smoothies were all the perfect.
⭐ FAV: Tropical Bliss

NOT fully vegan as advertised

This place would receive 5⭐️ if it weren’t for the misleading ad. The menu is NOT fully plant-based as advertised on their website. The first thing I ordered when I got there were the empanadas. Had I not double-checked that they were vegan, I would not have known that they contained dairy cheese. Only then was I told that the restaurant offered soy cheese or dairy cheese as an option for anyone who’d ask. The empanadas,
however, didn’t not come with that option and there was nothing indicated on the menu that it was NOT vegan. Not cool.

eggs also seem to be an option at breakfast.

That same week, fish was on the menu. I am not sure if this had anything to do with the fact that it was christmas week for anyone who celebrated, but the kitchen was definitely NOT fully plant-based, (again, as advertised) granted 90 % of the menu was.

Pros: very creative, attractive vegan dishes, (mostly) tasty vegan dishes; some more than others, nice dessert selection

Cons: NOT fully plant-based, as advertised, non-vegan dishes must be clearly indicated

Wonderful 100% vegan

The restaurant is part of YAY Lodge. Delicious vegan variety and friendly service. Breakfast, lunch, dinner available. The setting is stunning. During peak times expect a bit of a wait. Value for the price! #Veganuary

The history

In 2015 we opened YAY in Amsterdam. In the beginning, it was a health cafe, eco friendly store & yoga studio. For a couple of years it ran successfully but with a long and wild journey, YAY moved to Colombia to continue to share the passion for inspiring others to live more sustainably. Now our project includes Bio-constructions inspired by original cultures alongside organic gardens, edible
forest and medicinal gardens that nourish the largely open-air restaurant. A land, whose design is based on the principles of Permaculture, where you find natural pools and you can bathe in the flowing waters of the Guachaca River. In YAY, you can find serenity and enjoy the pleasures of Yoga, Meditation, Therapies and Massages. Whilst walking in the gardens and jungle you can ground yourself and connect with nature. There are also plenty of activities to explore the area, such as trekking to the Lost City, in Tayrona Park and to other beautiful destinations, casually tubing down the river, day trips to exotic places and relaxed strolls along.
