- The tables had to be moved in order to make space. Staff wasn't attentive enough to do that. So no worries, i'll take care of it. (chairs literally couldn't be moved out from under the table. Not even a child was able to squeeze in).
- Later on I noticed my chair was falling aport. So I started tightening the screws underneath. I imagine that's quite a sight in cramped and crowded restaurant. But even as staff had to move around me, they didn't ask: Is something wrong with the chair?
- Since they online present themselves as vegan (old website), even though they aren't anymore, it shouldn't be a strange question if meat and vegan options are prepared separately. But instead f just answering, the staff started discussing my standpoint. I'm not going to a restaurant to discuss who's right or not. I just wanted to know what I could order instead.
False advertising:
Imagine our dissapointment it being suddenly a meat serving restaurant, with a different menu and no picky eater friendly options anymore (kids).
Dinner:
They told us everything you ordered could be shared. With that in mind, we ordered a few dishes to sample (to see what the kids would like and manage expectations a bit).
When we didn't order a full course for everyone, they didn't like that a lot. We told them we might place a bigger order if there was something the kids would like. We promised we'd be out within our timeslot. It felt like you're only welcome if you spend a lot.
The kids were finished eating and then the other stuff had yet to arrive.
The vegan taco dish thingy was a weird combo. Some sort of pancake like thing with chocolate sauce, fermented pinepple and some sort of spicy mushrooms. As someone who doesn't have trouble eating cucumber with whipped cream, I gave it a fair shot. But the combo in my opinion shouldn't exist.
The next was some hummus balls and frog peas. That was just hummus with a weird aftertaste.
Then 1 mushroom split in 2 with other stuff.
But all dishes weren't really shareable. So we either misunderstood the concept, or it was a bad concept.
When the staff asked me if everything was tasty, I gave an honest but polite answer: Sorry, not my thing.
That's when the staff really got impolite, they were glad to see us go. I was glad to leave.

Is niet meer geheel vegan - Edit
Dit restaurant is omgedoopt tot Foodbar 39. Het is niet meer 100% plantaardig. Er is nog wel vegan te bestellen, maar lang niet zoveel opties als voorheen. Dit was een grote teleurstelling voor mij; omdat de oude Witlof-website nog wel online staat, dacht ik dat ik naar een vegan restaurant ging. Sommige gerechten worden in dezelfde olie gefrituurd als de vleesgerechten. Volgens de bediening is dit geen probleem 'omdat de gyoza toch dicht is, dus dan kan het er niet bij komen'. De gerechten hadden hele aparte smaakcombinaties. Niet mijn ding. De reactie op feedback was eerder aangevallen dan open.

Texel goes vegan! - Edit
Visiting the very first fully vegan restaurant of Texel was a tasty experience. Their shared dining concept is perfect to try a variety of the Ottolenghi-inspired dishes on the menu. We were with a group of five so we got try try almost everything! As a group we were unanimous about our favourites: the kimchijeon pancakes, the witlof tarte tartin and the fried cauliflower. The coquilles made with oyster mushroom and the curry were great as well! Situated in the historical centre of Den Burg, the restaurant has a cosy and colourful atmosphere. The staff is very friendly as well! Highly recommended, also for groups with non-vegans.

Read moreFür uns etwas problematisch, da sehr unterschiedliche Geschmäcker (gerne scharf, der andere auf keinen Fall scharf), somit hat jeder eher nur für sich bestellt. Hier dann das Problem für uns, es kam jedes Gericht zeitversetzt, so dass einer schon fast sein ganzes Essen nach einer Zeit hatte, während der andere mit knurrendem Magen daneben saß… Außerdem hätte ich gern den Hummus mit dem Blumenkohl zusammen gegessen, allerdings wäre der dann kalt gewesen, bis der Hummus endlich gekommen ist.
Es war alles sehr lecker und die Idee an sich finde ich sehr gut, aber meiner Meinung nach müssten alle Gerichte zeitgleich kommen.
Für das Aussuchen der Gerichte war übrigens happy cow unser Retter, da man sich anhand der zahlreichen Bilder orientieren und unter den einzelnen Gerichten auch etwas vorstellen konnte.
Pros: Mehrere Kleinigkeiten bestellen können, Sehr gemütliches Ambiente, Hunde willkommen

The amount of Vegan friendly restaurants on Texel is quite limited. Therefore, it’s great that Wit Lof is not only fully Vegan but also serves suprising dishes that are very tasty and affordable.
Read moreI like that you can share the meals and can taste a wide variety of different flavours. You can see they put alot of effort in their menu by creating tasteful combinations. The atmosfeer is very relaxed and staf is really friendly. Would definitely recommend and will return whenever we will be on Texel again.

We tried the kimchijeong, cauliflower, sweet potatoes and chicory. All of these were beyond amazing!!🥬🍠
We also tried the bruschetta and the curry, which were lovely too! 🍛
We didn't take many pictures at all, because the food was so yummy we didn't care about pictures and we just wanted to eat. 🙇🏻♀️
The staff was super duper friendly, thank you so much for the great evening!! I cannot wait to come back 💖

Wij hebben erg lekker gegeten en het personeel was bijzonder vriendelijk. Het shared dining concept maakt het tafelen gezellig. De bestelde gerechtjes worden 1 voor 1 naar de tafel gebracht en je krijgt er een uitleg over de ingrediënten en herkomst bij. Ze gebruiken bijvoorbeeld paddestoelen van een zorgboerderij op Texel.
