Limited options but very good - Edit
I tried the vegan pasta which was the only vegan main they offered (other option was a side salad) when I went at noon.
Read moreThe pasta was super flavourful and the aubergine was melt in the mouth gorgeous!
They didn’t offer an alternative milk for their drinks when I went (not mentioned on their menu)
Pros: Very good pasta , Okay price
Cons: Only one option (but done well)

Vegan options in sleepy town - Edit
A few vegan options, I had the pasta which was very good after 5 days of walking the Kumano Kodo. Less options than expected but we enjoyed it!

Excellent feed after finishing the Kumano Kodo! - Edit
My husband and I visited Wine Kumano for dinner after finishing our last day of the Kumano Kodo Trail. We were exhausted and in need of a good feed. We were greeted warmly and requested a big vegan feed from the chef. The chef spoke excellent English and understood veganism well. He did not disappoint. We were served at least 5 different vegan dishes, all absolutely delicious. You could tell thought and care went into his meals and we absolutely demolished it! The wines were also excellent. It was a very affordable meal, if we could give it 5 stars we would! Also a very fun and cosy looking venue.

Cons: None!

Hearty meal in a town with limited VG options - Edit
There are very few options for vegans in this town that is known for its fishing industry, so I was relieved to find Wine Kumano after a few days of hiking the Kumano Kodo!
Read moreNot only did they have vegan options, they had a multi course vegan option for ¥3000.
It came with a salad, avocado toast, little appetisers and a very filling potato gratin, topped with tofu and vegan cheesy sauce.
Everything was made fresh and came out hot. Some of the food was a bit oily but overall I thought it was great.
It's a cosy wine bar that seats about 10 people. It wasn't busy when I arrived for dinner on a Saturday night so I don't think reservations are needed.
The chef (maybe owner?) of the restaurant speaks good English and was curious to talk about veganism. Great customer service throughout the night.
If you happen to be in this town, I would recommend coming here if you're looking for a big western feed.
Pros: Lovely ambience , Very filling and tasty food made fresh, Friendly and English speaking chef/owner
Cons: On the expensive side (¥3000 for the multi course), Not sure if they offer A la carte vegan options
