Vegan Options? Staff Had No Clue.

Vegan options available by request? Apparently, that’s news to the staff.

This restaurant is listed as offering vegan options upon request, but when I asked what was available, the response was, “What do you want?” When I asked what they could offer, I got the same question back.

Despite other staff being present, no one was consulted. Instead, the employee hesitantly suggested that maybe they could make an avocado roll, but didn’t seem particularly sure.

Eventually, the chef started shouting from the back that they could make a veggie roll and began listing the ingredients. Then, a caterpillar roll (with just veggies) and a cucumber roll were added to the list of options.

The issue isn’t the limited selection, as this is a common issue. It’s that a restaurant is listed as having vegan options should actually know what those options are and be able to communicate them. Customers shouldn’t have to invent their own menu or negotiate their way to a meal.

Having the ingredients to potentially make something vegan isn’t the same as knowingly offering vegan options.
