Village Grocer

Jalan Telawi 1, Bangsar Village, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 59100

Part of chain of supermarkets with many western food as well as biogradeable cleaning products. This location, as of March 2014, added an abundance of vegan food products such as protein substitutes, cheese, soy yogurt, milks and others. Fresh fruits and veggies, along with a large selection of international organic products are also available.

Vegan cheese, ice cream, yogurt - Edit

We are amazed to find so many vegan products at village grocer. Malaysian vegans are very blessed. In Singapore, we can't find vegan cheese, vegan ice cream or vegan yogurt at our major supermarkets. We have to try our luck at some organic stores. Even we may find some, it's rare to find so many vegan products under one roof. At village grocer, we found vegan products such as ben & jerry non-dairy ice cream, so good ice cream, follow your heart and daiya vegan cheese, etc. Vegans have to spend much time in searching for suitable products, checking the labels and ingredients. I wish we can have vegan supermarket in the near future.

Pros: Many vegan products, Properly labelled

Cons: None

awesome! - Edit

I got non dairy Ben and Jerry's, Follow Your Heart provolone and Gouda cheese at two for one, and they had the Daiya shreds, too. All vegan. Lots of vegan sausage patties and tofu. A huge organic section the size of a supermarket of its own for herbs and seeds and what not. I was beyond satisfied.

Inconsistent Supply of Stocks (Local or Abroad) - Edit

They have quite a variety of goods but they are there for a short period of time or till the stocks run out and never replenished for at least a few months or ever.

I'm a regular shopper there only because of the convenience versus the filthier grocery shops nearby.

Am at my wits end when I find something I love there only to see it never restocked after it's all gone.

The excuse given is "The stocks are from overseas so it takes a long time to get here". Fine, I'll accept that, but what about local products? Restocking the same products cannot be counted on at this store.

Extremely disappointing.

Pros: Cleaner than surrounding Grocers, Convenient Parking, Variety

Cons: Inconsistent Stocking, Random movement of products within store

underwhelming - Edit

After reading the description and previous reviews I ended up being severely disappointed. No actual vegan cheese, just a Parmesan and cream cheese. Staff did not know what I was talking about when I asked if there was any more. A large selection of Asian and western mock meats - many of which have egg or milk though. Pretty much a regular supermarket with a tiny amount of vegan items. Disappointing.

Supermarket with many vegan options - Edit

Chances are, that even as a vegan or vegetarian, you will have to go to the supermarket now and then :-)

While it is never a totally pleasant experience, as you have to walk through aisles with animal products and experience the smell and sights, there are some supermarkets that at least offer something for vegans and vegetarians as well,

Village grocer in Bangsar (located in Bangsar Village) is a great example of this. I do not know if their other outlets also have this new offers, but since March 2014, they have been offering a wide range of vegan and vegetarian products:

- Vegan Cheeses from Cheezly and Follow Your Heart
- Vegan slices and sausages from VBites
- Soy yoghurts from ALPRO
- Lots of non-dairy milks, including organic varieties
- Vegan and vegetarian burgers, roasts, and other mock meats

Of course, they also do offer fresh produce and they do have a good organic section.

Pros: Lots of vegan products

Cons: Animal products prominently on display
