Lovely vegan food - Edit
Vegan places aren't easy to find in Patong so we were happy to find this one. Lovely buffet of Thai dishes, spicy and non-spicy. Very cheap.

Extremely tasty local food - Edit
This place had really good local food with lots of options. There were quite a few fake meat options as well.
Extremely sweet lady owner. Doesn't speak too much English and there is no menu but you can point to the stuff that you like and choose.
I would eat here everytime I got the opportunity to.

Tasty Local Food - Edit
Thanks to HappyCow we found this lovely place, which wouldn't be so easy to spot as it's far from main roads.
Tasty and cheap food (all the mains are vegan, cookies on the counter contain eggs), friendly staff (even though they don't speak English very well) and a family atmosphere.
There are no drinks available (which wasn't a problem for us).
Pros: Tasty, Cheap, Amosphere
Cons: No Drinks

Delicious, authentic, inexpensive, & plant-based - Edit
This small-but-mighty eatery is not to be missed. The mother-and-daughters operation serves highly flavorful Thai Buddhist cuisine that is authentically prepared and plant-based (I asked them to be sure, and they said no meat, eggs, or dairy products on the menu, but i did notice that their small shop in the front does sell a few packaged commercial items that contain dairy and eggs).
There's good variety in the buffet, with the selection changing daily to keep things interesting. Usually there's at least one noodle dish, several faux-meat items, and a number of whole-veggie offerings (the latter making it a good choice for people who aren't into mock meats). There was even one vegetable i'd never encountered before in all my years eating in Thailand, which is always fun.
I've sampled at least 12 different items during my visits to Patong and everything was delicious. A plate of rice with a serving each of three different veggie items cost 50-75 Baht (a little more for the faux "fish," which was uncommonly good). They're happy to serve you either more or fewer than 3 items as well, with the price adjusted accordingly.
It's open till 5pm daily, and fortunately the food in the heated area of the buffet table stays reasonably hot so even if you get there later in the day it should be fine. I made a habit of having an early (11ish) lunch and then coming back for an early (4:45ish) dinner.
Note there are no drinks served (other than water), so i would often grab a fresh coconut elsewhere before coming for a meal.
Regarding the location: The marker on the HappyCow map was in the wrong place, so it's no wonder the earlier reviewer couldn't find it. I sent HappyCow the correct coordinates so hopefully it'll be fixed by the time you read this. Just to be sure: It's at 38/50 Nanai Road, which is about 300 steps south of the Sainamyen Road crossing, near Kelly's Hotel (but on the opposite side of the street). Look for the yellow banners.

Open till 5 or 6 pm - Edit
One vegetable dish with rice for THB 35 (US$1) , two with rice for THB 40 (US$1.30). Soup and rice noodles also available and also a variety of meat substitutes. Actually I submitted this place and the correct address is 38/40 not 35/40 Nanai Rd, Phuket.
Pros: Good value, Friendly staff
Cons: Some Spicy Dishes
