Awesome fried chicken - Edit
The fried chicken breading and seasoning was fantastic. Will come back just for the chicken bacon ranch sandwich.
Read moreNot a huge fan of the sides that came with sandwiches and burgers (chickpeas in some oil and seasoning or raw kale with raisins).
They were out of baked goods when we arrived to pick up near closing (totally understandable) so will have to try back for that.
Pros: Fried chicken is great
Cons: Sides offered are not appetizing

Service was Not Very Friendly - Edit
We came on a Sunday afternoon and the staff was either super tired or overworked because they just kind of looked at us awkwardly when we came through the door. Got the same awkward stares when I asked for a to-go box and even when I said goodbye when we walked out the door. We drove an hour to check the place out, so that was pretty disappointing service. Nachos were very good, main entree was a little cold though. I would try again if I'm in the area, but I wouldn't make the drive again just for the restaurant.

Yummy - Edit
The atmosphere was cute, but staff was a little awkward. Was not welcomed when we walked in, and we had to ask for service. Once we got help, some of the staff was nice and helpful. The food and beer makes up for it all, because it was amazing! Will definitely go again to try more of their menu ☺️.

Broad range of vegan options - Edit
We were traveling back from Ohio to New Jersey and found The Vegetable Hunter on Happy Cow. Not knowing how busy they may be, we called in a lunch order to be ready in 30 minutes and when we got there, they were putting on the finishing touches. My daughter ordered the Smothered Hot Dog, a seitan hot dog covered with a chipotle black bean nacho cheeze sauce which she absolutely loved. I ate the Chick'n and Pumpkin Waffles. Let me say I LOVE anything pumpkin! The tofu was breaded, fried, smothered with brown gravy and placed over 4 mini pumpkin (Belgian) waffles with syrup. It was amazing! I brought a Bahn Mi sandwich home intending to have it for dinner. I'm not sure if it needed to be eaten earlier, but there were a couple of tofu cubes that were so hard they were inedible. Overall the sandwich had great flavor between the crunchy carrots, fresh cilantro, heat from the jalepeno and sauce on the tofu. This location is easy to miss, so look for the hanging plaque and give them a try!

Tasty but for sure not super healthy - Edit
Good food in huge portions at reasonable prices. We tried three sandwiches, and all were very tasty. Didn’t feel phenomenal afterward, though — a lot of it is definitely pretty greasy and fried. If that’s what you’re looking for then this place is a 10/10!

Terrible service - Edit
tried going to twice on my trip to Hershey park. first time I showed up at 2:10pm on a Tuesday (they close at 2:30) I started looking at the menu and they and once I started to tell the waitress my order and then she decided to tell me they turned the grills off at 2pm. so we left. next day I placed my order over the phone. they told me 25 minutes for pickup. I got there 30 min after I placed my order and they didnt even start my order when I showed up. I told them to cancel it because I had plans to go to a concert at Hershey park. the counter person didn't even apologize. I was excited to try this place and they ruined it with their terrible service.

Great staff and food - Edit
We were traveling to the area and stopped here for dinner. The staff was very friendly. I had the Rueben and my husband had a protein bowl. We also had the nachos. Great food. Nice serving sizes too. They had a couple gluten free options for my husband. We got a couple cans of beer to take home. It was cool to watch them can them right in front of us. If we ever are in the area again, wed’d eat here again.

So rad - Edit
So much better than the gas station burrito we usually make do with on our frequent Pittsburgh to Philly turnpike trips. A quick and easy detour from the highway, delicious food and drinks and they were even gracious enough to modify the grilled cheese (aka leave out the flavor) for our picky little one. Bahn mi and cheesesteak sandwiches were outrageously good and I'll be dreaming about the lavender lemonade until our next trip. We will be back!!!!

So dang delicious! - Edit
This was a unexpected and wonderful dining experience. I-81 is limited with places to eat for vegans so it was a pleasant surprise to find The Vegetable Hunter. Between myself and other family members we tried 8 items on the menu, each were loaded with flavor and very filling. Every item I tried was healthy and didn’t leave me feeling sick to my stomach. My father and brother are not vegan and have been critics of vegan food as long as I can remember, but they had ZERO complaints about The Vegetable Hunter. I am very pleased with this experience and will DEFINITELY return!

Desserts, Cocktails, and Beer Great - Edit
Tried the Sunday chick'n and waffles and not a big fan. The cocktails and beer were really quality. The coffee stoudt was a great balance and very smooth flavor. I especially liked the elderberry gimlet cocktail. I had a strawberry frosting cupcake that I'll probably have dreams about, so yummy. I'd come back and try something else on the menu next time. If you're short on time, this is not the place to go. Service is very slow right now with limited staff.

A winner! (updated review) - Edit
UPDATE: We are working our way through the menu! Our favorite drink is the strawberry seltzer. I was unaware that they had donuts, but if you have opportunity, totally get the vanilla with chocolate chip frosting. The Reuben is good if you're a fan of eggplant, but my favorite menu item by a long shot so far is the Philly Cheesesteak. Also, I know I mention this below, but the chocolate chip cookies are to die for. Staff are always friendly. I cannot say enough good things about this place. Just know that you will not be disappointed!
Read moreHubby and I grabbed the grilled cheese with spinach pesto and tomato sandwiches here last night. I did a double-take. Yep, 100% vegan! So good. The chickpea salad was incredible. Simple, but so much flavor. We highly recommend the lavender lemonade. Oh, yes, and the chocolate chip cookie? No omnivore would even guess. Friendly staff. Can't wait to go back -- there are so many things on the menu we want to try!

So/So - Edit
Very appreciative that this place exists - especially when you’re on a long trip and most options off the highway are just the usual meat-centric fast food joints. There were a plethora of choices. I had the pesto macaroni pita - the macaroni desperately needed salt but the pesto was good. I also tried the Reuben, which had a lot more flavor than my own dish.

Great Lunch in Harrisburg! - Edit
We stopped for lunch at the Vegetable hunter on a Thursday afternoon and it was wonderful! Only one employee working (slow due to Covid cases being on the rise I assume) but he was very friendly and helpful. No paper menus so we looked up the menu on our phones. We ordered a plate of nachos to share and they were delicious! Lots of toppings and great flavors. Then I had the Pesto Mac n Cheese Pita with kale salad and although the kale was nothing special the mac n cheese was amazing! Some of the best vegan mac I've had and went so well with the toasted pita. My sister got a mushroom and peppers "cheese steak" and my mom had the pesto grilled cheese which were both fantastic as well. Great chocolate chip cookies to finish off the meal as well.

Awesome Vegan Spot - Edit
Tried this little cafe while passing through Harrisburg and was really impressed. Food and presentation was great. Upgraded my tofu bahn mi sandwich to include a drink and a cookie and i think it may have been the best oatmeal raisin cookie i’ve ever had. Also took a double decker vanilla donut to go.

Greasy food and slow service - Edit
My friend and I stopped by this place to eat lunch before I took her to the airport. I ordered the crab cake in a pita bread (it was really good but did not taste like crab) and she ordered the Israeli pita. We had waited 30 minutes until we got our food, the people that came in after us got their food, ate, and left long before we got ours. We had to go up and tell them we were in a hurry, by the time we got our food we only had 10 minutes to eat before we had to leave, after eating we both felt really awful, both of our foods were super greasy (hers was worse than mine) definitely NOT HEALTHY OPTIONS like how they appear on the menu.
