Diamond in the Rough of Harrisburg - Edit

This place has a wonderful vibe and the staff and owner are SO friendly. They are almost completely vegan. A couple options have eggs but they can all be bought without.

I got the taco bowl and a huge vegan chocolate chip cookie. The cookie was average but the taco bowl was an unbelievably delicious mix of flavors and textures. My friend got the superfood protein bowl and a vegan donut and they were both pretty good.

Pros: Some delicious options, Friendly Staff, Huge portions

Cons: Not enough seating, pastries aren't great

Happy in Harrisburg - Edit

Harrisburg is lucky to have this gem! I’m excited for when I am 21 and can purchase their brews on a hot summer evening and sit outside. The menu is limited but VERY good. Get there early though, as when my partner and I got there for a 6pm dinner they were already out of several meal items (including the vegan Mac n cheese...TRAGIC).

Pros: delightful staff, creative drinks , very flavorful foods

Cons: very limited seating (during the winter), run out of menu items by 6pm, music was too loud to hear one another speak

Great First Experience - Edit

I went to the Vegetable Hunter while all of my friends went to a burger place down the road. I am vegan and have celiacs, so eating out is difficult for me. I asked the waitress if there were gluten free/vegan options and she kindly circled them on the menu. There were more options than I thought there would be. A band was playing, so I listened to them while waiting for my food. I love the artwork and general vibe of this place. The taco bowl and brussel sprouts I got were delicious and full of flavor. I am looking forward to going back and bringing my family.

My only con is that the space is a little cramped. This doesn’t bother me personally, but I accidentally hit someone sitting behind the door on my way out.

Pros: Occasional live music, cool atmosphere, flavorful

Cons: Cramped space

Best vegan options in town - Edit

The addition of the boutique brewery is quite a bonus! Really top notch beer. The food is fresh and flavorful. The roasted beet hummus is a favorite! Just be positive to reiterate that you want your meal prepared vegan and you'll be happy. Almost all menu items can be veganized.

Pros: many vegan options, but must specify vegan, delicious home brewed craft beer

Cons: can be slow if they have more than one or two cust

Now called The Vegetable Hunter - Edit

Harrisburg's only vegan/vegetarian cafe. They recently opened their Boutique Brewery. Try the "Blondie" if they have it on tap. They also offer cocktails mixed with Harrisburg's own Mid-state Distillery. The tacos are excellent.

Pros: All vegetarian. Everything can be veganized upon r

Not Very Vegan Friendly - Edit

I'm not really sure why "vegetarian" and "vegan" are seen as closely linked diets. One involves exploiting cows (and chickens, and possibly many other female mammals and egg-laying animals), and the other is actually a plant-based diet.

The reason I lead with this is that the staff at The Vegetable Hunter (once called Crave and Co.) seem to agree with me. In fact, they were the ones who had to remind me of it. I thought I was doing a good thing by choosing a vegetarian restaurant for my first stop in Harrisburg. Vegetarian is almost vegan, I reasoned. Surely, the restaurant is very vegan friendly.

It isn't. The person who took my order had no clue which tacos were vegan. A co-worker she consulted seemed to know (or was pretty sure...), but when shifts changed amid the preparation of my order, the result was a taco with feta. It was replaced right away, and the resulting trio of vegan tacos was very tasty, just as specific vegan items at non-vegetarian restaurants are sometimes very tasty. However, if a non-vegetarian restaurant can consistently offer vegan items, and deliver them in a fully vegan state, then I would rather support that than any restaurant that is so devoted to dairy and so unknowledgable about veganism.

Pros: Good tasting food

Cons: Difficult to order vegan

Great quality veg & vegan food - Edit

One of the few veggie options in Harrisburg, and I'm so glad it was this tasty! This hip little spot has a nice menu and cool decor, with both indoor and outdoor seating. For starters I ordered a glass of the lime flavor housemade kombucha. It was so refreshing and light, and the serving was a real generous pour!!! The vegan tempeh reuben was incredibly flavorful and came with a side (I chose the kale salad). Crave and Co. has many vegan options including fresh desserts, so it's a must for vegans.

Pros: Housemade kombucha

just horrible. - Edit

I Really really wanted to like this place! My husband and I went in and they were not very busy. only one other table sat- it took them almost an hour to bring our food! we each ordered a vegan reuben sandwich.
It was so gross that neither of us could finish our meals. It tasted moldy, and just nasty! I've never been more disgusted in my life. (And i am not one to complain at restaurants. )
Worst $30 ever spent.
The staff asked us how everything was, to which we kindly replied "we're sorry, but it just did not taste very good...we hate to waste it, but we are."
To which they replied, "yeah, that sandwich can be like that.."
uhmm, what?!
While I'm glad that we had the experience- we're never going back.

Food was in various stages of decay. - Edit

I wanted to like this place - the atmosphere is a lot of fun. My boyfriend and I enjoyed playing Jenga at the table while waiting for our breakfast. I really appreciate that the place is all vegetarian.

Here's the problem: all of the food we received tasted strongly of mold or the sourness of going off. None of the vegetables tasted fresh. At the very least, this place needs to clean out all its refrigerators, scrub them down, and get a better connection for fresh produce. There was no excuse for the food we received.

We probably should have complained, but as it took a long while to get the food and we were on a set schedule, we just left. Unfortunately, we won't be back.

Pros: Fun decor, Jenga and games, Cheerful atmosphere

Cons: Rotten / molding food, Slow service

The menu options here are mainly vegetarian. The vegan options were not quite as expansive as I had hoped. However, the vegan walnut lentil burger was delicious! And the strawberry seltzer was bubbly and fun.

My Happy Place - Edit

The food at Crave & Co. is outstanding. There's just no other way to say it. Their vegan walnut burgers, cauliflower tacos, and biscotti were the stuff of dreams! I can't wait to try some soups, the Israeli sandwich, heir breakfasts... Even the fruit salad was amazing. All items are handmade on-site. Vegan and vegetarian, breakfast and lunch, organic coffee - really, all you need to make this your happy place, too! :)
