An all-vegan taco and Mexican food stand inside the Mercado 60 outdoor food court. Offers tacos, tostadas, tortas, and other local fare. Reported closed Jan 2020.
Menu was difficult for me to decipher, as was only partially translated into English. As well as being vegan I’m also intolerant to gluten so I was nervous around all the different mock meat options which often have wheat in them. So I ordered what looked safe and what I explicated to be a salad; Plato Boatnico - bit turned out to be crudités with a small post of green salsa. The most disappointing thing I think I’ve ever ordered. Even the vegetables were looking sad😒
We ordered tacos and an "molcajete" which was described on the menu as a mortar (without the pestle) filled with nopales, refried beans, vegan cheese and various vegan mock meats, that you can scoop with the accompanied tortillas. We waited 25 minutes only to find out that the person working the till hadn't activated the buzzer, which then didn't ring and she had left our food on the counter and it was now cold (we suspect that it was never warm to begin with). The "molcajete" meal didn't match the description at all: it was a weird lukewarm, liquidy brown mess with soy frankfurters sticking out of it, no nopales, queso or refried beans in sight. We were supposed to scoop this liquid with the tortillas, but this was impossible. When we notified the staff member about how the meal didn't match the description at all, she didn't make any effort in correcting this or claiming any responsibility for cooking up this horrible mess. The place is an absolute tourist trap and should be avoided unless you want someone to ruin your meal.
My wife and I found this great place in Merida tucked away in this outdoor food mercado. The owner/operator was kind and helpful, and the service was speedy. We sampled several items on the menu, including a variety of vegan tacos (there are three options), tortas, and tostadas. Vegan Packs does a great job with translated descriptions for non-native speakers, and the menu was easy to navigate with our rudimentary Spanish. The place seems to specialize in vegan-meats, and does an exceptional job. There are beef, pork, and chicken options, and everything was fresh and tasty. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for some fresh vegan fare. The outdoor food market also has tons of cocktail, beer, and wine vendors—as well as bier-garten seating—if you're looking to make a night of it!
