Nice people and good food! - Edit
This restaurant is in a fun area called the Bishop Art District with lots of cute shops. The staff was super nice and patient as I decided what to get. I asked what was popular and the first thing he said was the creole shrimp nachos. I ordered them to go so they provided the toppings separate from the chips to prevent them from getting soggy. They were pretty darn good. I also got the beignets with chocolate and cream cheese drizzle and they didn’t look great but they were so damn good!

Never thought I’d have a monte cristo again! All my dreams came true at this restaurant 😍 I don’t think you can go wrong with any item on the menu, but we tried the monte cristo, Cajun pasta, and boudin balls. All were divine.

We had the fried oyster mushrooms with biscuit & gravy and the Italian sausage grits bowl. Both were so freaking good. Very well seasoned. Not remotely healthy but that’s ok. Cute environment in a converted house.

So happy that they are now open 7 days a week. First time here and it was so hard to decide!!! Cauliflower tacos were amazing!!! Fried avocado salad was refreshing! Big fish po boy was huge!!! Will definitely be back!! And the staff is great!!!!

Visited this place with my kids in Dec. 25' while traveling, I ordered the Fried Lasagna, Cauliflower wings, Margarita flatbread, creamy steak pasta, kids nuggets and fries, sweet tea, and beignets. Everything tasted divine, and my kids loved it, although they're not vegan. I spent a total of $119. I had such a pleasant experience here, the inside was nice and modern, very rustic vibe, staff was super friendly, plenty of seating space. The only bad thing, parking was horrible. Today, we planned a road trip and I made sure we stopped at Dallas so my husband and I could experience this place together! After a very long time on the road, we placed an online order 1 hour and 30 min before we were scheduled to arrive. This time, I ordered: Vegan Cajun Alfredo pasta, small bites fried lasagna, crab cakes, chicken fried steak & gravy w/toast, chicken fried tacos, sweet tea, lions mane buffalo bites, 2 buttercream pecan cupcakes and an assortment of sauces and dips, a total of $186.00. When we got there, again, horrible parking. He waited outside while I went in to pick up the order. Order was NOT ready! The girls handling the register told me that they were finishing up my order and it would take a few more minutes. I was in disbelief since we ordered so far in advance! Oh well, I figured the taste of the food will make it worth it! While waiting, one of the girls came up to me and said that they tried calling me but they didn't have the lions mane any longer and that she could give me a refund or I can select something of equal value to replace it with. I thought to myself, "you tried calling? No you didn't, it would have went through." Whatever, still thinking of the taste of the food, I just had her replace it with another vegan Cajun Alfredo pasta. While waiting, they gave another patron her food and the young lady said the same thing to her about trying to call her, the lady got sooo mad and told her that she could have texted, that she was already waiting for 20 minutes 😬. She ended up getting a refund and left. I asked if it was possible for me to get the drinks and sauces while waiting for the food to be done. She looked at me confused and then asked me what I ordered 🙄🤔. I told her 3 sweet teas and then gave her all the sauce flavors I paid for. She gave them to me, I went to go put it in the car, came back. I only waited a bit more while the food was done. Food was done (25 min later), they handed me 2 bags... Full review in Google or yelp.

Cauli Wings 7/10 just okay
Shrimp tacos 6/10 for sauce, excellent vegan shrimp flavor which is hard to do, only con was the tortillas were def store bought flavor and they didn’t travel well
Fried Oyster 10/10 literally tastes like a fried catfish plate with tartar sauce, good soul food very nostalgic
Mashed potatoes 11/10 gravy was 💣

Mac and cheese 11/10 🤤 I love comparing a good vegan Mac and cheese… this was the side we made sure to have for my 3 year old and he said it was the best he’s had.
Only complaint was no utensils included in delivery and we were already getting there late, luckily we were able to find some at the hotel

First visit today and likely not our last. We shared the cauliflower flight, fried lasagna, and waffle. He had an iced coffee and I had a blueberry lemonade. The cauliflower wings were really good and we liked the variety of dipping sauces. The drinks were good. The fried lasagna was also a winner. The waffle tasted like dessert with berries and whipped cream on top but was too dense. The menu is pretty extensive and the staff is friendly and provide great service.

Excellent Vegan Soul Food Restaurant - Edit
First of all I didn't actually go to the restaurant. I had my food delivered by Uber Eats app to another person then delivered 60 miles to my location. This is ok for me since I don't like to eat hot food especially in summer time. I usually eat very healthy vegan food from food that came out of the ground or from a tree such as kale, beans, brussels sprouts, apples.
Read moreI don't try to make food that tastes like an animal because this is not something I crave anymore but at the same time I want to try options at restaurants that taste like an animal so I can write a good review and tell people about it.
The food was great. I wanted some good heavy messy burgers and fries and that's what I got. If you are looking for a salad with topped with sprouts look elsewhere.
I ordered 3 menu items.
1. Nashville Hot Chick’em Sandwich + Fries - MEDIUM HOT - When I got it the first thing I did was examine the "meat" to make sure it was not an animal. The Uber Eats app didn't make it clear exactly what I was ordering but from the looks of it it was Oyster mushroom. Which is fine with me I eat mushrooms daily. Excellent taste and the heat was just right. I would recommend this one to someone that likes mushrooms and wants something similar to a chicken sandwich. I would order this for myself again. Fries were good too.
2. Buffalo Cauliflower Wings - I didn't really care for this one but this is no fault of the restaurant. I am used to eating very light vegan food. I usually eat steamed cauliflower. Something about eating fried cauliflower that tastes like buffalo wings just makes me feel strange. I think I would have liked this better if it was mushroom instead of cauliflower. What I liked about this was the sauce and the outer texture. The cauliflower inside was too weird for me though.
3. Uptown Burger w Fries - Beyond Meat - They are using beyond meat ground beef to make this so I could tell right away this was not an animal because the patty fell apart. The flavor of the burger was very similar to other animal burgers that you find at other restaurants, scary similar. Sauces used were good. This is not something I would order for myself again because it is too close to the real thing, but I would definitely recommend it to someone looking for a good beef burger that isn't spicy.
Even though I only really enjoyed one of the menu items I ordered I will definitely eat here again and recommend this restaurant to people.

It was our first food stop after a long trip to Dallas and we weren't disappointed. The atmosphere is super good and the food even better. There is a huge menu i was overwhelmed with almost. Lots of fried oyster mushroom choices. We were super satisfied.

Such an awesome place in a cool area. Came with 3 non vegans - in total we got the vanilla iced coffee, onion strings, dried pickles, Monte Cristo, BLT, grilled cheese, and biscuit breakfast sandwich. All of us were SO impressed - the monte cristo was definitely indulgent but delicious, even when heated up later! The only less than mind blowing part of the meal was the fries (not as seasoned as I usually like) but even those were still very good. Iced coffee was a little sweet but still super good. Highly recommend!

So much to try here off a HUGE menu! - Edit
Stopped here for lunch seeing as it was one of the few vegan restaurants in Dallas. The menu looked interesting (and HUGE), so there was a lot to choose from. So much, in fact, that it took a while to decide on what to order. I settled on the Southern Dinner Lunch Plate since it offered a variety of things to try, and I was not disappointed! I opted to add Mac and Cheese to the order so I could get a taste of that as well.
Read moreSo the Creole fish fried oysters, I'm guessing is supposed to mimic catfish using oyster mushrooms. OMG, the batter was DELECTABLE!!! At first I thought it was supposed to mimic fried chicken, which is really could have, as the shapes of the mushrooms really looked like wing sections. As some of the mushroom stalks were also overtired, the texture mimicked the tendons. This was NOT a bad thing!!
The smashed potatoes were super creamy and the gravy was flavorful, also. The corn wasn't anything special, but it was good and tasted buttery. The Mac and Cheese was also very good. The garlic bread also wasn't anything special, and it arrived after the main plate. When they brought the main plate, they said they'd bring the bread out shortly, but I think they forgot. It showed up a while later, but I was almost going to ask for it, as it was such a long time.
This lunch plate was a LOT of food, but I would DEFINITELY order it again. Of course, with the menu being so large, I don't know how long it would take me to get around to it again!

Life is too short to say no to the occasional fried food feast and no one does it better than VFH. A lot of menu items are fried and not considered WFPB but it’s okay; we’re not eating this way everyday. My favorites are the Big “Clam Strip” Basket, Crab Cakes, Fresh Cut Fried Okra, but my go-to is Big Chick’em Plate with mac ‘n cheeze. The stuffed jalapeño peppers are good but if you don’t love the taste/texture of vegan cheese, don’t order those. Don’t forget the ranch dressing for dipping! And no, they won’t sell us the recipe but they were happy to sell me a side to take home for my leftovers.
