ORDER EVERYTHING ON MENU - Edit

You can order delivery via grub hub and Postmates. The burger is one of the best I’ve ever had. Fantastic flavor. The kale salad is as equally good. Must order bacon Mac n cheese. Don’t forgot shake and cookie.

I would go back again & again! I had the chickens seitan kale salad & the must have fried bacon mac that every one orders!

Bacon Mac is the truth! - Edit

A lot of vegan restaurants don't do Mac and cheese well, but Uptons has figured it out!

okay food, great dessert - Edit

I got the bahn mi, mac, and soft serve of the day, which was a chai flavor. Bahn mi didn't have any great flavors, and was something I could have made for myself without spending $7. Mac was middle of the road. Chai soft serve was delicious, great texture and strong flavors, and I'm sure all of their soft serves are amazing.

Non-food related comments:
The restaurant is in a weird location, surrounded by commercial buildings with few people walking out on the streets. The outdoor seating area isn't particularly pleasant -- thin, white metal chairs that blend in with a bland, concrete environment. The seating area is also awkward and narrow. Everything is served in disposable containers, which surprised and disappointed me.

Pros: soft serve

Cons: boring flavors, all disposable containers, poor location

So delicious! - Edit

We enjoyed the freshly prepared food that was made right before our eyes. The bacon ranch cheeseburger was so flavorful and very filling. The pickles really stand out!
We also enjoyed a pumpkin spice shake (YUM) and the Bar-B-Que plate with fried bacon mac! So good. We wanted to get everything on the menu. Ample free parking in the area around the block when we visited on a Monday afternoon. Allow a little extra time for the food to be freshly prepared, it is worth the wait!

Pros: vegan deliciousness, awesome variety of items on menu, burgers and shakes and everything else!

Cons: wish we lived closer, limited seating area, the cookie tasted a little old

Best Comfort Food in Chicago - Edit

Upton's is most likely my favorite restaurant in Chicago. You simply must go there if you enjoy comfort food. It is a bit out of the way, and they only have 8 seats (patio seating during the summer), but it is well worth the trip. Also, check their instagram/website to make sure they're open before going, they have been closed for maintenance before and I couldn't eat their delicious food.

Pros: Reasonably priced

Cons: Few seats

over hyped - Edit

I have been dying to go here for a long time after finding it on happy cow and good reviews from friends but I was sadly underwhelmed. The food was good but it wasn't show stopping. I was most excited about the Mac and cheese but I wasn't a fan with the bacon in it. ( you can't get just the Mac and cheese without bacon) My dad (not a vegan) said the nachos were okay but nothing crazy. Soft serve was good! I don't think I'll come back for lunch/dinner time but I still do wanna check them out for breakfast/brunch time! I still think you should make the trip if you are in the neighborhood though!

Pros: super nice servers, pretty interior

Cons: can't get the Mac and bacon separated

Tasty Food, Especially the Fried Bacon Mac! - Edit

I went to Uptons twice in my recent trip to Chicago. The first trip for lunch was great! My husband and I split the Chicago Style Italian, the Togarashi bowl, and an order of fried bacon mac. I highly recommend the fried bacon mac, it's so good! The food is also reasonably priced and there is plenty of street parking.
The second time was for lunch and it was okay, but I admit we were a little disappointed. We had the combo plate and the breakfast tacos with a side of brussels sprouts. The potatoes in both dishes were dried out and flavorless. The other food was mostly so-so, although the waffle in the combo plate was very tasty. and I also was a fan of the sprouts. We got monsoons to go, which I was told were like blizzards from DQ, however they were really rather thin chocolate shakes with some oatmeal cookie pieces (they were good, just not what I was expecting; I probably would have tried a malt instead). All in all, this is a pretty good place and I definitely would go again. I may stick to lunch rather than brunch, however.

Pros: Fried Bacon Mac, Street Parking, Nice menu selection

Cons: so-so brunch

Tasty Food! - Edit

My husband and I stopped in for lunch one Saturday, scarfing down Nachos, a Breakfast combo plate, and a vegan bacon cheeseburger. It was all delicious! The only thing that was just okay was an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie. I would come back here again in a minute but would skip the cookie next time.

I wish they did tours of the Seitan factory, that would be interesting!

Pros: Amazing Veggie Burger, Great Nachos, Friendly and helpful staff

Cons: seating could be limited, cookie was just okay

Love it! - Edit

I recently took a trip to Chicago, and this was my first stop. In fact, I went directly to Upton's from the airport after a long flight, and their food was the perfect antidote to my post-travel hunger and weariness.

I ordered the BBQ platter, which included a BBQ jackfruit sandwich with coleslaw, pickles, and bacon mac and cheeze. All of the food was incredible, especially the smokey bacon mac.

They have a huge array of menu items, all of which look delicious. I can't wait to come back and try more of their offerings.

Pros: Great food and variety, Good value, Nice people

Cons: A bit out of the way

The food is amazing. Okay location and on the small side which could make it difficult during busy times however the food more than makes up for it. I will be back and would love to try everything on the menu. Pricing is fair.

Nice little place - Edit

If you find yourself in the neighbourhood, pay this tiny place a visit. Their menu of course revolves around Upton's offerings. I got the employees meal, which was a jackfruit curry, that was delicious, and had a nice spice to it. A side of fried bacon mac n cheese was a must try as well, and it certainly didn't disappoint.

I really enjoyed it, and was also happy to see that with a curry for example they do have options that are more on the healthy side as well. Anyways, a great spot for some nice comfort food. Friendly and welcoming staff as well. The only negative thing is, that some of their dishes (like the sides) always seem to come in take out containers, that end up in the trash at the end.

Pros: Delicious, Cheap

Cons: Some dishes come in take out containers

Soo Good!! - Edit

Upton's has an awesome flavorful menu! Prices are really reasonable. The food is delicious, so long as you are not eating HCLF it is great. If you are count it as a cheat meal cause it is worth the trip!
Scott had the BBQ jackfruit sandwich, it comes with greens and bacon mac-n-cheese for only $7
Brandy had the bacon cheese burger. $9
We also got a side of rice and beans. $4
The only draw back, is there are only 8 seats so if you come at a busy time plan to carry out. Don't let that stop you, as the food is delicious!

Pros: All Vegan, Great Value, Very tasty food

Cons: limited seating, not for the low fat eater

I got the togarashi bowl with a side of mashed potatoes and he got the Korean tacos with a side of fried bacon Mac. for desert shared a spiced chai sundae with cookie crumbles and chocolate drizzle. It was so filling and amazingly tasteful. Quality and very reasonably priced. Highly reccomened.

Pros: spiced perfectly, filling, nutritious and food por

100% vegan, 100% good - Edit

Updated from previous review on Wednesday November 04, 2015

Changing my review because I went back for a second visit. My first experience was not the greatest, but I could tell that it was just one of those days. It only took me two days to come crawling back and this time around everything went smoothly.

On my first visit I had the bahn mi and flashed greens which were both really good. Today, I had the "employee meal" which was pastrami with kraut on rye and it was delicious! The kraut definitely made the sandwich. My husband ordered the korean tacos which had a really great flavor!

Really excited to visit again for brunch sometime and also to try the vegan soft serve! The cookies looked gigantic - I wish I had kept room in my stomach for them.

Love that the menu is 100% vegan and so far everything I've sampled has been top notch!

Pros: 100% vegan

Cons: small

worth the journey! - Edit

When we traveled to Chicago last summer we didn't rent a car and we were staying at the magnificent mile, but we figured out the city bus system so we could go to Upton's Break Room! The fried bacon mac and cheese is the most delicious thing I ate on the whole trip! We also got sandwiches and several other items...you get A LOT of food for a little money. Go. It's sooo worth it.

Upton's Breakroom Rules - Edit

Upton's is a really great option: all-vegan, nice new space, easy street parking (if you drove). Some of my favorite menu items are the Fried Bacon Mac and Monsoon dessert. For the main meal, the Employee Meal is a good way to go (like a daily special). They have brunch on the weekends now, too, which I need to check out.

Pros: Really fresh and delicious, Nice space, Reasonably priced

Cons: Small space

Seitan galore - Edit

Yay. I was really thrilled to see on happycow that Upton's opened up a retail location. It's small but comfy enough, and the sandwiches are tasty and inexpensive. I don't have time to make seitan at home, so sometimes I would grab a pack of their packaged seitan at Whole Foods Market (in the refrigerated foods section by the tofu and other faux meats). Throw the seitan in a stir fry with veggies and noodles, and voila: dinner.

Could be so much better, but not bad - Edit

This is a small cafe attached to the Uptons corporate building. They make good food, based on the Uptons products, such as fried "bacon" mac and "cheese", "Pastrami" sandwiches, etc. They also have soft serve "ice cream," and I have tried really hard to like it, but it's really not that great. 100% vegan.

Pros: 100% Vegan!, Good Food
