Best jaffle you’ll ever eat - Edit
I’ve been here three times across three weekends now and I can safely say their jaffles are GOATed. The perfect size, the perfect shape, and served piping hot straight out of the press as they should be. For that reason, take care on your first bite for those uninitiated to the Australian jaffle- it’ll be as hot as lava inside! Every single one of their 14 or so jaffles have a great filling so you can’t go wrong. So far I’ve had the tofu scramble, the bolognese, and the pepperoni mac & cheese jaffles. Each one came perfectly crispy with the nice added gourmet touch of salt flakes on the crust. Their coffees and desserts are good, but their main area of expertise is the jaffle. The staff seem a bit curt at first, but these guys get smashed with customers all day- there hasn’t been time where the line isn’t out the door. So, get your order out succinctly and grab a seat while you can. Though there are no bathrooms in the café itself, staff will gladly unlock the door to the secret one above the arcade if you ask nicely.

Based on all the reviews I had high hopes for here, but wasn’t that impressed. The croissant was dry, weirdly sweet, and almost doughy. The jaffle was so overpacked it didn’t fuse closed on the sides so the filling kept falling out as I ate it, and the only flavour I got from it was “salt” (it even had giant salt crystals on the outside of the bread). The sandwich looked good but was overwhelmingly flavoured with curry powder.

Super friendly Toastie stop - Must Visit! - Edit
Really interesting menu of various Toastie fillings, the Toastie are called ‘jaffles’. The staff are super friendly and helpful and it has a welcoming vibe. If you’re heading into the city this a must on your stop! The jaffle I had was a special miso tofu one which was truly unlike anything I’ve had before and a great refuel on a day of exploring the city. They don’t have a loo, but as you are in the city there are other public loos around just to be prepared. The seating is pretty cosy and it can get busy but turnover of customers is fairly quick, the place had a good buzz too.

I’ve been to Union Kiosk a couple of times, and the jaffles are always so delicious that I wolf them down before I remember to take a photo. Excellent quality and flavours with delicious fake meat options and some really cool flavours. Its always a really filling eat.

Great food, wonderful people, and hands down some of the best toasties you’ll find in Melbourne. We’ll definitely be back!

Have tried a few of the jaffles and they were all really nice and filling, definitely a good deal for the price. The croissants however are always dry, thought it was an off day the first time so tried one again and it was the same. The other cakes are nice though

I must've visited this place 10 times in the month I spent in Melbourne. I tried almost every toastie on their menu and my personal faves were the Korean kimchi beef and the mac and cheese. I loved the location, the outdoor tables are a great spot to sit and read a book. Sheltered from the Melbourne rain bit still a great view for people watching.

I hadn’t had a jaffle for ages and these were amazing. We got the spinach and mushroom, and the bolognaise. Both were delicious and toasted to perfection.

I've always been slightly disappointed by Jaffels - they sound so exotic to non-Australians, until you realise they are just toasted sandwiches by another name. So, despite all the rave reviews, I came here expecting to be underwhelmed. I could not have been more wrong. These are truly amazing. Just so much flavour. I will keep coming back till I've tried them all. Oh, and the coffee is really good too.

Read moreIt has been explained to me that a jaffle, which rhymes with raffle, is a sort of an ironed-close sandwich with hot fillings. I had the buffalo chicken, which was lovely, while a blueberry tart was attractive but a bit on the dry side.
