Delicious and fast

They have one set meal for each lunch and each dinner. I visited on a Tuesday at lunch so I was served the red kidney beans and veggies with brown rice. They were tasty and filling. Service was fast and friendly, and even if you aren’t a student, the price is fantastic for the amount of food you get.

Pros: Delicious food with good portions , Very cheap , Friendly and fast service

Secret vegan dessert!

They now have a secret vegan dessert if you ask for it. It was sticky date pudding when I went. Don't know if it changes.

Good enough

Filling and healthy, probably more of a place for a cheap meal when you don’t have time to get something properly

Absolute Deal

Great lunch options and unlimited cheap eats for the backpackers. Ate multiple times, but have to clarify vegan with the staff for everything.

Yum and a great bargain!!

Really delicious flavourful food. Amazing that you get unlimited refills too! They had a vegan alternative for the dessert and it was also yum!

#Studentlife

I've been coming here since 1998! I used to always come here when I was a student and working in the city. Cheap, wholesome food. Share a table with randoms and have a chat. All you can eat, one meal option per day that changes each day of the week. Ask for the vegan option and dessert. Sometimes they don't have vegan dessert.

Simple, tasty food!

Quick, tasty, healthy food!

Open for dinner and lunch.

All you can eat ($9.50 which includes rice, curry and poppadoms, desert and drink) but one serving is enough.

Check out link for daily menu:

Just beware, not all desserts are vegan.

Pros: Friendly staff, Very well priced

Cons: Ambience of restaurant

Really good food

The food is really really good and super filling! Easy to get here if you’re in the CBD. It’s all you can eat but we were full from only one plate

Good homey food for affordable price

Only 9.50 dollars for rice, curry, drink and a dessert. Don't miss the opportunity to taste their food at least once if you are in Melbourne.

Pros: Love the portion and how generous they are, Nice vibe and kind people, I'll keep coming everyday

Cons: Nothing

Great food and they have a vegan alternative desert. Always cheerful.

Love their food, limited option depending on the day or the meal (lunch or dinner). Vegan food and a vegan desert I’d you ask for it otherwise it’s vegetarian. More of a cafe than a restaurant.

Cons: Cheap as, concession card holders get a discount

Decent feed

I don’t know if I’d ever been to crossways before, certainly not for a long time. The food is so cheap, and while (obviously) not amazing, is perfectly fine, particularly given the price. I even had a pretty nice vegan desert of spiced cake on one occasion but I tend to skip dessert now as I realise it fills up a lot of space quickly that could better accommodate another helping of the more nutritious curry. It has to be acknowledged that the asafoetida in the food does repeat on you and has a vaguely eggy aftertaste, but all you can eat for $9.50 is a pretty good deal. Depending on your disposition you might find the music imposing or centring.

Pros: Super cheap meal

Cons: Eggy aftertaste

Fill your tum for less!

Crossways is a Melbourne institution. After four decades, there is no doubt that the people who work at Crossways know how to make simple yet tasty food. I was super pleased to learn that there is a vegan option for dessert every day now; the mains have been vegan for a long time already.

I had a great meal of rice, curry, and pappadums, plus a not-too-sweet tapioca dessert. Fabulous flavours delivered hot and fresh!

The new premises are not as atmospheric as the original, almost-secret upstairs cubby hole of many years ago, but hopefully the new easy-to-access street-fronted location will be a bonus, not a drawback. There is indoor and (covered) outdoor seating available, and the place was super clean.

Pros: Tasty food, Reasonable price, Unlimited refills

Clean, healthy, satisfying

Food is simple and plenty of seating available. Venue is clean and well lit. The rice and curry alone is filling enough; the dessert is extra to satisfy large appetites.

Thank you to the volunteers who always cheerily greet and serve you.

Pros: Large portions, all you can eat, Affordable, No stress because vegan/ vegetarian

Amazing!!

Absolutely loved this little gem. Delicious food, lovely staff and brilliant value for money! It’s $8.95 for a 2 course meal (and you can have as many seconds as you like!) and a drink (refillable). The main course was vegan, 2 curries with rice and poppadoms, which was all amazing. The dessert was sponge and custard (only vegetarian) but the server asked us if we were vegan and had a vegan apple crumble prepared as an alternative, which was also delicious! The drink was orange squash. The food served changes daily, a board in the restaurant has all of the weeks meals displayed. The main course is always vegan, but the dessert is often only vegetarian, but they may have a vegan option available too, as they did for us. Would highly recommend to any vegans or vegetarians looking for great affordable food in Melbourne!

Little treasure

Me and my partner had an early dinner here, guys are super lovely, super cheap to eat, and the food is AMAZING, definitely delicious and not “just ok” as previously reviewed... and we stayed full for hours although we ate early! One star less because the dessert (date halwa) wasn’t vegan😔 so pls ask beforehand!!

Pros: Delicious genuine curries , Can get seconds!!!!! , Lovely workers

Cons: Some desserts aren’t vegan

Just ok.

Ok, so at $8.95 it is definitely cheap. But vegetarians get a dessert included and vegans don’t, and pay the same. There is only one option with rice and papadums. May have been worth $4.00 in my opinion. I didn’t really like the taste either. It was just ok. I won’t be returning.

Pros: Not much.sadly

Cons: One choice , no dessert for vegans, Not overly tasty.

Second favourite food place in the entire world

When I lived in Melbourne I ate here almost every second day, with the other half of my meals being at Om vegetarian (my true one and only). The curries are almost always delicious, the cordial is great, they have vegan dessert, and the pappadums are always perfect. It's very very cheap too, especially for students. I can't speak high enough praise of crossways.

Great little spot!

My wife and I ran into this place while out exploring Melbourne and decided to pop in (the price drew us in). Great friendly staff and super delicious food. Each day is a different menu and it’s all you can eat for only $8.95!! They offer discounts for students and healthcare card holders as well. If you’re in the Melbourne CBD do not miss this place!

Pros: All vegan or vegetarian menu

Cons: None

Best value for money

Crossways is one of my favourite places in Melbourne. Offering great all you can eat food for a very reasonable price. The food is always really delicious and the people working always friendly. The only downside is that the menu is set for each weekday so if you come back in the same day if the week you’ll have the same food.

Pros: Very cheap

Cons: Only one meal option
