What a place. This is the type of vegan cafe you go out of your way to visit when in Melbourne. Walking tours that go down this alley stop for ages whilst everyone takes a picture of one of the smallest cafes to probably exist! I've visited many a time and tried every standard jaffle as well as a few specials. My faves are the bbq veg ch*ckn, the mushroom and the chipotle and shepherd pie specials they do. Staff are always friendly, and happy to take phone orders if you have a short lunch break in the city. Their hot chocolate with coconut milk is next level too - remember to take your own cup and takeaway container if not eating in!

I’ve visited here twice and both times the food has been incredible!! The hardest part is deciding which jaffle to pick as they really are all so yummy 😋 definitely the best toasties in Melbourne !!

Best Jaffels anywhere ever! - Edit
I've always been slightly disappointed by Jaffels - they sound so exotic to non-Australians, until you realise they are just toasted sandwiches by another name. So, despite all the rave reviews, I came here expecting to be underwhelmed. I could not have been more wrong. These are truly amazing. Just so much flavour. I will keep coming back till I've tried them all. Oh, and the coffee is really good too.

Read moreIt has been explained to me that a jaffle, which rhymes with raffle, is a sort of an ironed-close sandwich with hot fillings. I had the buffalo chicken, which was lovely, while a blueberry tart was attractive but a bit on the dry side.

Union Kiosk is an amazing toastie (or jaffles) place! A perfect spot for breakfast or lunch! We had the scrambled tofu, ham and cheese and the chicken and feta toastie. Both were perfect and packed with the amazing filling! They also have a wide selection of pastries and deserts. We were able to get a cinnamon scroll (the best of the bunch!), a chocolate croissant, a brownie and others! Definitely check this place out!

We came back in December 2025 and were so happy (and not at all surprised!) to see that this place is thriving in the CBD! The jaffles were better than we remembered and the staff do such a great job considering they are always so busy!

Have only ordered through uber eats but so good I’ve ordered twice and plan to again before I leave Melbourne. Tried their veg bolognese, buffalo ‘chicken’, scrambled tofu ham & cheese and their PB choc cookie sandwich so far. Can’t recommend enough!

Very cute little cafe which serves a huge range of absolutely delicious jaffles. I've been here many times but still haven't come close to trying all the flavours. Try the Mexican bean one if you come here, it's [censored] good. The coffee is really good too.

Good coffee, a nice selection of jaffles (ie. toasted sandwiches) but, best of all, they have vegan lamingtons. With jam. I had not eaten a lamington in at least 15 years and was so delighted to find these here and eat one. If you’ve never had a lamington, this won’t necessarily be much of a draw but there are other baked treats as well.
