Amazing vegan food - Edit
I love everything about this place. The food was amazing, both my boyfriend and I got the khao soi with tofu, they have big portions! They have a cute story for the name of their restaurant and even promote other vegan businesses in the area.

Remarkably Bad - Edit
We were surprised from start to finish, sadly not pleasently. We had the impression that we could get some nice Indian food here, but the paneers we had were just bad. They were served in the cheapest plates and tasted as much. Especially the spinach paneer was bitter and the tofu in both had no taste and bad texture. The rice and parath (bread) were small in serving and poor in taste as well. Apparently, they do not prepare the parath fresh. The size and quality is ridiculously for what you pay. The strawberry lassi and lychee soda were nice, but that's about it. The bathroom is in need of repairs as well.
Read moreThis sounds hard but considering the prize you pay and the other reviews you see online we must have had really, really bad luck with our options (which were chefs recommendations). We are also not too sure about the whole Ubuntu movement, so we recommend avoiding this place.

We are really sorry to hear this experience which is not common to most of our visitors. We wish if we could get to know that then and there and could have compensated. If you are still on island, please collect 50% refund on your bill. We will speak to the team about this and will improve our services. Thank you for not giving 1 star and being kind enough to give 2. You are amazing.😄

A Must-Visit Vegan Gem in Phuket! 😍 - Edit
We had an incredible dining experience at Ubuntu EAT Vegan Vegetarian Cafe in Phuket. The cafe truly lives up to the philosophy of ‘Ubuntu,’ creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes everyone feel at home. The menu is inspired by Indian cuisine but also includes a variety of international and fusion dishes, all thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor. Whether you’re craving a comforting curry, a hearty dhal, or something globally inspired, there’s something for everyone. The staff is kind and attentive, ensuring a delightful experience from start to finish. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Phuket! 🥰❤️

WHY I'M WRITING THIS:
Read moreNormally, I’m against criticising vegan restaurants too harshly. It’s not a fair fight. The industry is already up against cultural bias, carnivorous cynics, and tighter margins than a wire walker. But this was beyond forgivable. It ended with me curled on the floor in my hotel room, experiencing the kind of stomach rebellion usually reserved for shady street food and bad decisions abroad. My first real case of food poisoning, all thanks to a place that prides itself on wellness.
I see that more and more negative reviews are buried by overzealous supporters of Veganism without looking at the bigger picture.
THE REVIEWS:
Out of curiosity, and perhaps a need for vindication, I checked the Google reviews afterwards. Thousands of them. The math didn’t add up. The negative reviews were eerily similar to my own experience, and yet the restaurant responded to each one with a level of snark and defensiveness that screamed guilty. No apologies. No accountability. Just digital temper tantrums disguised as customer service.
THE FOOD:
Let’s be clear. This wasn’t food. It was a hostage situation. The bowl arrived hot enough to sterilise surgical instruments, yet the contents were still frozen in the middle.
This was clearly the work of the famous Chef Mike (The Microwave)
It was like biting into a cruel metaphor. The texture was confused, the flavours absent, and the presentation hovered somewhere between canteen regret and airline afterthought. It was like the scene from Matilda where Bruce was forced to eat the cake except not as delicious.
THE BRIBE:
Before the meal even graced the table, a cheerful staff member leaned in and asked if I’d leave them a five-star review in exchange for brownies. I hadn’t taken a single bite. I smiled and said I’d do it later, because I was raised to be polite, but inside I was wondering what sort of operation needs to dangle chocolate just to harvest praise.
THE ATMOSPHERE:
The moment my dish was placed in front of me, the entire energy shifted. Staff began to stare at me with the intensity of reality show judges deciding my fate. I couldn’t lift a fork without feeling scrutinised. It was less of a welcoming dining experience and more of a live lab rat trial.
THE VERDICT:
This wasn’t just a bad meal. It was a cautionary tale in three courses. I wanted to support a plant-based business. Instead, I left with trauma, a ruined evening, and a newfound fondness for the Thai pharmacies.

Pros: Near to the Old Town, Toilet is right next to where they cook
Cons: Microwave meals, Strange smell in the restaurant , Expensive

Hello dear friend. Before we apologise, I have to say that you are talented writer. Even though review is negative, your knack on creative writing impressed me.
Read moreNow the real issue. What you wrote is a nightmare for a customer and even a bigger nightmare for a vegan restaurant owner who have fought from the world and norms to bring the plant-based cuisine keeping profits aside and purpose in the centre. You may have noticed on the last page of menu (as you are sharp) that we are a global community. But this is not an excuse of what you have to go through while dining at Ubuntu EAT. This is shameful service and I wish if I could meet you personally and say SORRY for this. We are SORRY. If you are still on Phuket, do get your refund. I wish if I could ask you to give us another chance of serving food but with your review, I feel we have lost that chance forever. We are going to take this serious and do a staff meeting about the incident. Thanks for not giving 1 star even though you could and you must. You still chose Kindness. Thank you and SORRY!

Amazing vegan restaurant in Old Town Phuket - Edit
Delicious food and a great selection of different cuisines. Ordered the fried prowns, fysh biryani, chycken red Thai curry, puneer butter masala and paratha. All the food was incredible, although the fried prowns and fysh biryani were the stand out dishes for me. Staff and owner are very nice and friendly and are deeply passionate about veganism. Please visit and support this small vegan business if you're in Old Town Phuket!!

The definition of a scam - Edit
Simply go onto the Google Reviews and you'll notice that the lowest reviews all have a pattern of the same complaints. Their responses to them are not great either.
Read moreThe highest rated reviews are all highly suspicious.
Sitting at the restaurant you'll see a small sign that says that they will provide free brownies and other food if you review them before you leave. Simply absurd and unethical. Someone wrote a negative review and the restaurant responded by telling them they shouldn't write negative reviews and keep their criticism private.. I've had a look at their positive reviews and some of them look like paid for bots/shill accounts. It is strange that a restaurant that is so new has so many reviews.
The food is slop. It isn't fit for consumption and clearly a mixture of frozen and reheated ingredients that are sitting all day. One of the curries for example was boiling hot but with frozen peas that were thawing and diluting the flavour.
Do not come here if you have a loved one that you wish to treat, or if you have a friend you want to experience quality vegan food, as this is not it. Most likely they will either think you are insane, or will become a carnivore.

Pros: It's vegan I guess, No food poisoning despite the flies
Cons: Frozen poor quality food, Flies, Fake reviews on Google
UbuntuEatThailand
We are sorry that you are so pissed with our response on google that you decided to put reviews on happy cow too. Response clearly says that we are sorry for the poor service and offered full refund. But you caught the end part "Appreciate Publicly, Criticise Privately". What it means is that if you don't like service, directly talk to manager and give the feedback and don't pay for it. If you like it, appreciate publicly so that more people can get to know. Most of the world function in opposite direction.
Read moreNow regarding 5 STAR boost -
Just like you, customers these days are really smart and if you think that 1000s of customers will give us 5 star and write a paragraph about us after paying so much for bad food because we give them just a small piece of brownie worth 60 baht, you are wrong!
We agree that this is certainly a good marketing strategy because it motivates customer to leave a review but it doesn't influence them to write a wrong review for a paid service which was not worth. In current times people forget to appreciate the good but never miss a chance to point out the faults. Hence our "leave a review and get a brownie" is just to remind them to appreciate if they like and if not then give us feedback.
Thanks for coming and taking time out to write your feedback.

My experience in Ubuntu was not too good. I have problem with my throat and ask for not spicy food, but I got spicy any way. I don't mind wait longer for the food but after long time my partner got a food and have to wait next 20 min. Prices are high and for me there is not going quality with it.

We had a mix of Thai and Lebanese dishes and they were all delicious. The Khao Soi was milder compared to classic Thai restaurants but still very good. The wraps were maybe a bit small for the price but nonetheless super tasty. A bit on the pricier side but still recommended.
