Contaminated

I have a rule with restaurants that serve both meat and "vegan" options. That is: You F*** me once and never again. Well tonight was the F, here comes the never again.

Traralgon Thai is the bare minimum for veg options. They claim to have a "vegan menu" however this is a misdirection. Their idea of a vegan menu is a copy of the generic takeaway menu with several options from the stir-fry section hastily asterisked in permanent marker to signify they could (theoretically) be done vegan. Staff also seemed split and confused by the terms vegan and vegetarian, and I don’t think they took either seriously.

It's clear that at a best-case scenario they simply aren't adding the usual fish sauce or crustacean flavour into your "vegan" dish, though more likely they simply aren't adding the beef or chicken.

The worst-case scenario is what I experienced when ordering from Traralgon Thai tonight. As soon as I got my dish I saw a rogue piece of chicken. It was painfully obviously meat. (They do not offer mock meat). Non-vego friends who I was dining with confirmed that it was meat.

From the attitude I witnessed, behaviour of staff and the results I recieved I'm confident that Traralgon Thai is actively cooking "vegan" dishes in the same pans and with the same utensils as meat without properly cleaning them. It's also likely dishes secretly contain fish sauce or other contaminants which aren't labelled or considered. And meat can potentially be in the food.

Worth a visit

Ask for the Vegan menu and it lists all the options and some specials available also, good selection.
