Beautiful ethics - Edit
Fantastic meal last night with my mother, both of us making a journey to come try this new zero waste organic vegetarian restaurant. The place looks wonderful, low lights from candles and plants bursting out of every crevice.
I started with an unusual twist on the Negroni, made using goji berry liqueur, that gave a pleasing maraschino cherry taste. We ordered all the starters and asked for one that had cheese, to be made vegan. This was done with no fuss, and what a joy of a dish it was. Smoked aubergine, as a deconstructed baba ganoush with charred tomatoes, an absolute sensation. The spring greens and spinach soup, a simple recipe, made into a worthy restaurant dish, with its depth of flavour and use of pepper, giving a moreish background heat.
We shared the market plate, a huge portion of vegetables, everything cooked to perfection. Both the broccoli and roasted fennel being the best I have ever tasted, anywhere.
We followed with an unbelievably good vegan dessert of beetroot chocolate cake, served with cashew nut cream. My mother bought an extra three portions to take home.
Over the course of the meal, I had a Vermentino and a Portuguese red, followed by an unknown and slightly sweet Amaro. I tasted a seriously good Riesling, and a cherry liqueur. Most impressed by the quality of all of their drinks, on their short but well sourced menu.
We had a long talk with one of the staff, letting him know how much we appreciated someone finally opening a restaurant with the ethics and food we have been craving for so long. And they have done it with such flair, and best of all taste. Could see his eyes go wet, as we gushed over with praise. Marvellous to see people with such passion for their work.
Looking forward to many repeat visits.
