A New Favorite

This little restaurant is delightful! It’s super casual with clearly marked vegan options. We got vegan tacos, a vegan burrito, salsa, chips, and guacamole. I’ve been living in the area for 6 months and this is my favorite Mexican food option to date.

Pros: Clearly marked vegan options, Food was prepared very quickly, Everything was delicious and clean

Cons: Open kitchen so there is some background noise, Good for a casual night but nothing fancy

Knapp’s Corner’s hidden Gem

Tia Juana is a hidden gem that is tucked away in an area striving for attention in Knapp’s Corner. The exterior is fun and vibrant and the interior has some of the most beautiful, colorful murals I have seen in a GR restaurant. It pays artistic tribute to its namesake in Mexico.

Their vegan option amount is solid. And they have a nice section in the side of the menu that lists all their vegan items. I ordered three of the vegan tacos. The seared meat substitute had a steak-like mouthfeel, which was a texture I have not experienced with faux meats before. It was a little tough and springy - in a good way. It had resistance. The amount of food was appreciated. Three tacos and rice and beans was more than enough to fill me up.

As a weird side note, Tia Juana takes the award for best cups in Grand Rapids. They feel like hand-crafted ceramic bowls. Make sure to ditch the straws for the full effect.

They also have a popsicle freezer with many flavors to choose from. Just make sure to check the ingredients.

I had a great time at Tia Juana. I would highly recommend anyone to come visit for some great vegan options in a fun, bright setting. I will definitely be returning.
