Tommy Eats World

With no work on Monday, the time seemed right to break free of the shackles of Saturday brunching and try my hand at Sunday feasting instead. Opting for this restaurant due to the pedigree of its surroundings, I was more than hopeful that I would be privy to high-class cuisine and exemplary service. Unfortunately, though not a disaster, neither of my aspirations was quite realised.
In the interest of not being overly critical, I will say that I did have a more than adequate meal. There were many things that I did thoroughly enjoy; chief among these were the flaky spinach fatayer, the ever-so-addictive onion rings, and the entirely brilliant chocolate raspberry shooter. A mention too for the creamy avocado maki, not quite in the same league as the aforementioned dishes, but delicious nonetheless.
After these standouts, though, things began to falter slightly. From the pizza to the Cajun-spiced fries, and from the chickpea salad to the garlic pasta, everything was a little muted – entirely edible without being particularly inspiring.
The same descriptors could easily be applied to the service, too. While one member of staff was beyond excellent, the remainder were just about fine. Also, the mid-dining napkin-waving procession to a thumping party track was wildly unexpected and equally unwanted.
Ultimately, I believe this place may have somewhat suffered from the weight of expectation that I placed on it; not that I feel this was unduly lofty. If forced to return out of obligation, I would do so, but I’m unlikely to do so under my own volition.
