Revolting

I was given the meat menu by default and had to ask for the vegan menu. Not a great start for a restaurant calling itself The Vegan Indian.
I ordered the (fake) chicken madras curry. It was just big chunks of ‘chicken’ slathered in a hot but slimy sauce that was clearly out of a tin or jar. That was it. This is the first (and I hope the last) time I’ve eaten a curry that didn’t have a vegetable in sight. To be fair there was a lot of protein - probably about 3 days’ worth - but as a culinary experience it was revolting.
And expensive even by Amsterdam standards.

Pros: Vegan menu available (on demand)

Cons: Curry was revolting, Expensive

Generally good

The food is not bad, yet not amazing. The biryani and the starters were good. The kofta tasted as the vegan meat balls of ikea. The vangan lassi says damn good, I would barely called it good.
The place is shared bwmetween vagm Manu and meat menu. I hoped for a 100% vegan

Pros: Friendly

Cons: They should pay more attention to details, To the Indian cuisine

Great food and hygiene problems

The food was good and plenty. We had samosas, garlic naan, fake chicken masala and butter panir, which all was very tasty. It is a bit pricey, but still OK. What's not OK, was the hygiene. The plate was dirty, the bottle too and don't let me speak of the restrooms, they were gross. Also, it's not a vegan place, but has an extensive vegan menu.

Pros: Good food, Fake meat

Cons: Lacks hygiene , A bit pricey

Fraud

Not really a vegan restaurant, just advertised as such. In reality it's just a vegan menu of a mediocre tourist-trap Indian restaurant. If you order a curry, you just get some flavored and colored coconut curry without vegetables and rice. Yeah.

How this is a 'friend' of HappyCow is beyond me.

Pros: vegan options

Cons: serves meat! , no veggies, touristy (in a bad way)

Pricey yet Delicious Food

Note this is a delivery review, I haven't been to the restaurant yet, so it's solely based on the food that was sent to was via Deliveroo.

We were a bit surprised with the prices. 40 euros for a meal for 2 is pricey compared to the other places in Amsterdam.

Still... We really enjoyed it! The meal was delicious, we are 100% ordering from them again.

Long wait & Food that wasn't worth the price

We had to wait 3 hours in total until we got our delivery and it was disappointing to say the least. I was really looking forward to the Garlic Cheesy naan since it was quite expensive, but it was such a letdown. There was half a slice of vegan cheese in the middle with what seemed like one clove of garlic chopped up on top of it. The rest of the naan was just not seasoned. (+ lukewarm and ripped in half) The samosas were very dry and the veggies were just mush. My main dish was actually very tasty but again the veggies were just very soft and mushy.

The fact that we had to wait 3 hours to get our lukewarm, very disappointing and expensive food was definitely not worth it.

Cons: Expensive, Long wait times, Food wasn't warm / up to standard

Reasonable food at reasonable prices

“The Vegan Indian” is located in the most tourist dense part of Amsterdam. In fact, these streets offer restaurants, theaters and not much more. And to attract as many people as it can, “The Vegan Indian” does in fact go by multiple names. It is also known as “Bollywood” and “In curry we trust”. The deceiving part of this is: the restaurant has a meat menu, a vegetarian menu and a vegan menu. Yet it is registered as “vegan” on HappyCow, which is not entirely correct. If you don’t want to sit with meat eaters, this is not the place to go.

We asked for the vegan menu and it lists a lot of options! There’s a wide variety of curries as well as biryani. Even traditional items like naan bread and mango lassi have a vegan version. The latter is a tad less sour than cow milk lassi, but still an excellent companion to the average spicy Indian dish.

We ordered dal curry (lintel) and an egg plant curry, both with rice and naan. While all food was tasty and good, it isn’t special. The rice didn’t come with any almonds or other enrichments. The naan was somewhat small. The curries didn’t have any greens in them.

While everything was vegan and good, it wasn’t special. But then again, prices are very reasonable. So if you want reasonable food at reasonable prices, do visit the “Vegan Indian”.

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Reasonable prices at a tourist location

Cons: Just about impossible to reach by car (or park), Not the friendliest staff (your mileage may vary)

High hopes

The food itself was delicious, but the concept is very confusing, as there are 2 cards, a vegan and a normal one. At first , though , we did not know that and were very confused when we were given the regular menu. On this menu there were only a few vegan dishes, which are actually available at every other Indian, e. g. Lentil dal . Also , the naan was with butter . Later when we had our food, we noticed that you would have had to tell the staff independently, that you want the vegan card. I only noticed this because I wanted to order a Naan without butter, to which the operator replied I should have asked for the vegan menu in the beginning.

Food OK delivery long

I had the butter chkn, it was creamy, the chkn was ok not sure what brand. Lacked some flavor and the Naan was not fluffy as I like.
Delivery sucked, should have been 35 mins actually was over an hour. I used Uber eats but they have their own drivers.

Pros: Lots of choice, Delivery, Open late

Cons: Slow, Lacks flavor

Exactly what I was craving.

The place was easy to find and if you tell them you’re vegan, you will get a separate vegan menu. The service was fast even as more people started to arrive. After you order you get a papardum with a spicy sauce on the side. I ordered the vegan yogurt mango drink which was so good that I ended up having had three in total at the end of the meal. Since I went alone I only had a main course which was the Goa Paneer Coconut Curry. The sauce was extremely rich and delicous with a great coconut taste to it. I could however taste that the tofu was not seasoned, but paired with the sauce it was still good. I had been craving Indian food for a while and this was exactly what I wanted. Will definitely be coming back with friends and trying more of the menu.

Pros: Whole vegan menu, Fast service, Great food and drinks

Misnomer as it’s co-located with normal Indian restaurant serving meat

Average food. It’s marketing to call it vegan as much of indian food can normally be vegan

The food is delicious

We arrived very hungry and left very full. The food was absolutely delicious and the meal that was described as "very spicy", was indeed, very spicy. The prices weren't that cheap, but certainly justified. The loos weren't so nice but the food made up for that.
The vegan mango lassi was very good, but the curry's we're the best.

Pros: Everything was vegan; the food was great, Cute decorations

Cons: The loos were kind of under construction

Amazing!

Yummers! I want to hire their decorator to furnish my apartment. After my meal, I was knocked into a food coma. Everything I tried was bursting with flavor. The waitress did an excellent job. They got a new customer for life! Try The Meatball Curry & The vegan Mango Lassi!

Great food, ok service

The food here is excellent (especially the “meatballs”), but the service could be a little better. The tap water was very warm and the “ice cream dessert” served turned out to be a popsicle.

Pros: Lots of vegan options

Cons: Warm tap water, Popsicle as ice cream dessert

Delicious Vegan Indian food: this is all you wish for!

I had the vegan butter chicken with samosas and vegan cheese naan. The vegan butter chicken was really delicious and it came with rice. The sauce reminded me of butter chicken, so they did a great job. The vegan cheese naan did not have any cheese in it, but that can happen!

Never again

We arrived at the restaurant at 4pm and were told to come back at 4:15pm because they were needed more time to prepare the kitchen. As we returned we placed our order and waited exactly one hour until the menu was served (exluding starters). The small sized drinks are 200ml and cost 3€. The menu said that they have vegan ice cream available but it turned out to be just a popsicle (for 4€). The food itself tasted fine. But we think it was too pricey (58€ for two persons).
