Cozy place with ok food - Edit
Not terribly impressed with the food. What I appreciated is that they have vegan versions of French and Belgian dishes. The whole menu is in French which was a bit annoying. The place is big but cozy.

Cosy place offering tasty vegan food - Edit
The Judgy Vegan made my day in Brussels. It's a nice alternative location, designed with love.
Read moreThe menu is all vegan and comes with a lot of sweet temptations in terms of several handmade cakes and desserts. In addition you can chose some basic but all tasty savoury dishes, such as salad, burger or fries.
All of those are served by a friendly and courteous person. So all in all I felt very welcome and enjoyed the food a lot.
(Just a tiny disclamer: The white wine was not to my liking at all. But that's just a matter of taste, of course.)
Pros: tasty food, cosy place and friendly staff, good value

Good food - Edit
This place is great with an all vegan menu, I would definitely recommend.
Read moreI had the potato dauphinois with vegetables and tofu. This was really nice, I haven’t had a vegan version of potato dauphinois before so it was a nice treat.
My partner had the meatballs which is a vegan version of the Belgium classic, the sauce for this dish was absolutely delicious. The meatballs are seitan so a bit heavy and chewy, they would have been better smaller.
This place was a bit pricey but totally worth it to support a local vegan restaurant.
Pros: All vegan menu

A business with intersectional values - Edit
As I was browsing through some old pictures in my computer, I found a couple from this lovely café and realised I hadn't left a review for it.
Read moreBetter late than never, because I really want to express my appreciation for this place and for meeting some interesting and passionate people there.
Besides trying some delicious food and desserts (I think the lavender cupcake was my favourite), I also got to speak with one of the managers about the story behind the business.
With regard to the brand name/image, it has a double meaning, or maybe even a triple meaning if you start with the impression of a sarcastic tone behind "The Judgy Vegan".
For one, the logo is inspired by a rabbit that one of the founders had saved from a meat farm. Sadly, the rabbit didn't live long due to how he was bred to become enormous and unhealthy. As for the name, it puts the focus on the animals who should be judging us—veganism is about them, after all.
The manager also told me how the café was designed to be inclusive and welcoming; they had drawn inspiration from certain activist cafés in Berlin. Indeed, as you can probably tell from all the leaflets and posters, the owners want to show support for various social justice issues.
They also tried to make the food as affordable as possible, the point being to attract people to veganism and a more ethical lifestyle, but they were also careful about how they sourced the ingredients (i.e. offering fairtrade coffee and tea).
I know they wanted to use the café to host various educational events and offer the space to activists who needed a place to organise. I really hope they managed to do that!
All in all, I am glad I got to meet such wonderful people and it's thanks to Happy Cow that I found this place. I should give myself some credit too for following my intuition.
I recommend stopping by at "The Judgy Vegan" for its welcoming vibe and good hearty food if you are ever in Brussels!

Lobster roll was amazing! - Edit
Bit of a mixed bag food-wise, I thought the croquettes were very disappointing and filled with a plasticky cheese, but the seitan coq au vin and lobster roll were both excellent.
Read moreService wasn’t very attentive, although we were told upon arrival that they were busy and that there would be a delay with the food which I appreciated.

Visited "The Judgy Vegan" quite late and without a reservation, which was no problem at all. I enjoyed the visit a lot, the staff was very kind and the food very tasty. Can recommend this place and would visit it again.

The burger was okay. But that is about all. The ambience seems a bit thrown together and it was a litte bit cold inside the room.

Home style vegan food - Edit
Great variety of options on the menu that I found it hard to decide. I really enjoyed the deep fried cheese sticks, they were delicious. I like how the dishes here are vegan takes on traditional dishes. The ambience is chilled and the staff are nice. Definitely plan on going back soon!.

Friendly place - Edit
I had the seitan burger, which was OK, but I have had many better vegan burgers than this. Was also asked if I wanted ketchup or mayo with it, and as I hate mayo, I said ketchup. When my order arrived it came with mayo... The patty was a bit hard and heavy. Would have been better if they switched the coleslaw with fresh salad and the pickled cucumber with fresh ones.

Not flavorful - Edit
I was excited to try something different and got the risotto and the boulets. The risotto was greasy and bland and the boulets had a strange texture and tasted like nutmeg and ketchup. The service was also very bizarre as the waitress just stood at our table while we were still looking over the menu.

Delicious, but no fixed price brunch anymore :( - Edit
The place was spacious and illuminated with a nice diffuse light. I really enjoyed the opportunity to use couches to sit very comfortably. The waitresses were very patients and helpful even if it happened that probably I was an annoying customer, because I was relying on the fixed price brunch menu to get me out of my eternal indecisiveness. 😅
Read moreThe food was delicious and the portions fair, the starters fairly priced, the main dishes not so much, but unfortunately I think it's the general situation of Brussels and the current global geopolical situation, which probably made them withdraw the fixed price brunch option too.
Pros: Delicious and fair portions , Lots of choices , Traditional meals
Cons: Expensive for me but not for Brussels

Vegan Meatballs - Edit
I had the vegan Meatballs in Liègeoise sauce which was tasty and nice to have something local - the chips were good too. The side salad was a bit basic and the seitan didn't have a great texture but overall it was fine.

Underwhelming - Edit
The staff are super friendly, and the place is spacious and cozy with a very relaxed and welcoming vibe. It really has a lot of potential, and I'm giving three stars because I really think that the people there are trying their best to provide a nice overall experience.
Read moreSadly, the food was quite bland. The meatballs were a nice try but had no flavor, the sauce lacked taste as well, and the fries didn't seem to even have salt on them.
I noticed that there were only tourists there so it feels like local vegans already know that the food here is nothing special.
Pros: Friendly staff, Cozy place
Cons: Bland food

Underwhelming at best - Edit
We left The Judgy Vegan underwhelmed, and a tad on the sick side. The food, largely void of vegetables, is bland and has an ‘artificial / hospital-like’ taste. The nachos, in particular, are a hot mess. There are much better vegetarian and vegan options in the area.
