Good food

Ordered vegetable spring rolls and 3 garlic naans with paneer butter masala.
The naans were very thin and soft. Springs were a little spicy but good spicy. Good place.

Pros: Garlic naan, Vegetable spring rolls , Paneer butter masala

Decent Indian food

After little explaining the staff (or at least some of them) did understand what vegan means and we were able to have a nice vegan meal. Apparently all the four lentil dishes on the page where "vegan" is mentioned are actually vegan. They could also make naan bread without butter which was very nice. We had some trouble finding this place at first but actually it is quite clearly marked: It is the glassy building by the small river behind this fancy stone building.

Pros: Vegan meals, Vegan naan bread can be made

Cons: Serves meat, Vegan dishes not clearly marked

Vegans beware (but OK for lacto-vegetarians)

First, a warning for vegans (and all who can't/don't take milk products) is in order: One page of the menu includes the word “vegan," but unfortunately that word can't be trusted here, as at least some of those dishes are confirmed lacto-vegetarian, not vegan (and, in speaking to the staff, they don't seem to know the difference). I ordered a Pindi channa from the “vegan” page, and, just to be sure, I told the waiter very clearly that I can’t take milk products. But, alas, it was served with paneer (cheese), which wasn't mentioned in the description on the menu. Likewise, the dal makhani is made with butter and cream (also not mentioned on the menu). The only dish on the "vegan" page that *might* be genuinely vegan is the "dal tadka," ***if*** it is fried in oil instead of ghee.

When I received my dish and saw the paneer in it, I called the waiter over to ask (to be sure it was indeed paneer and not, on the off chance, tofu), and the waiter confirmed that it was indeed paneer. He apologized and volunteered to exchange it, but it was replaced too quickly (just a fraction of the original cooking time), which leaves one wondering if they simply picked the paneer bits out in the kitchen, reheated it, and sent it back to me.

Otherwise, the quality of the food was passable. The atmosphere was dominated by the cricket match on TV.

Bottom line: I can't really recommend this place at all for vegans based on my one experience, but it's just one experience. Maybe I caught them on a bad day, and perhaps others might have better luck. And lacto-vegetarians might enjoy choosing from a menu with a larger selection than one usually finds at Uzbek restaurants.
