Vegan Options Listed & Check The Allergen List For More Options

The Freeman Cookhouse & Pub is the restaurant for Premier Inn customers staying next door and as with numerous Premier Inn affiliated restaurants, vegan options were two main courses but no starter or dessert. Explore the allergen list and two soups are vegan depending what is soup of the day, as well as Margherita flatbread without mozzarella.

I checked the wine list and as with most places, no vegan friendly wines were highlighted and yet a quick Google search revealed a rather smashing Sauvignon Blanc.

The pea and mint soup served with brown bloomer bread was piping hot, with a lovely texture, packed with flavour and for £2.99 an absolute bargain. Hubby ordered vegan burger, with a tomato flatbread and sweet potato fries for me and as there was no vegan cheese I had some Violife mozzarella in my bag.

Hubby loved his burger with its BBQ topping and with added cheese he said it was scrumptious and gave it the big thumbs up. My flatbread was excellent with a fabulous base and tomato sauce, in fact better than many Italian restaurants I have been and with the addition of cheese I was a happy vegan.

Shame Cookhouse & Pub are not more specific about possible vegan options like soup and flatbread and offering vegan cheese would appeal to more customers like the dairy or lactose intolerant. I cannot understand why they do not label vegan friendly wines so many vegans will just not bother purchasing wine, as it can be laborious doing a Google search.

Pros: Two vegan options

Cons: No starter or dessert, Better labelling needed for possible vegan options, Vegan wines not labelled

Vegan options

The menu had clearly marked vegan options. Was a good choice when with non vegans and trying to find somewhere that had vegan options.

Good pub food

We ate here because it was the only place we could book on a Saturday evening just after lockdown, but we were pleasantly surprised. I had the sloppy Joe burger, which was tasty and came with chips, although could have been a bit bigger. I was looking forward to the chocolate torte for dessert, but they'd run out! Cheap and cheerful.

Easy and standard

We had a flatbread with olives and hummus for starters, and the flatbread was delicious. For mains we had the vegan burger and the veggie option of the pigs in blankets. All tasty, good value.

Pros: You know what you're getting, good value.

Cons: Not too many options.
