tasteless fries & burger, okay-ish nachos with chili

Went here due to the good ratings, but ended up a little disappointed. One pro was that they are fully vegan with quite a few different options. Unfortunately the fries were quite soggy and the Texan burger was tasteless. The nachos with chili where dressed with way to little sour cream and tasted pretty average.

Pros: fully vegan, a lot of different options

Cons: tasteless, soggy fries, nothing special

Cracking place

Incredibly friendly and helpful service with ample smiles. Food was incredible. Don’t go without booking to avoid disappointment. It’s compact but they have a winning recipe for a successful business future. I’m not local but I will definitely return when I get the chance.

Pros: Lovely staff, Awesome food , Cosy and intimate

Cons: Probably need to book

Best eatery in Kent

The best. Everything about this place is great from the amount of food you get for your money to the brilliant service. We are never, ever disappointed. The only thing we'd change is the opening times to Always and our residence to Across the street. :-)

Pros: Friendly service, Portions of food, Delicious

Turned my friend vegan

We visited this cosy little cafe earlier in the year on a busy Saturday and were so impressed with everything on offer. I'm a vegan and my friend who came with me is a meat eater who had never thought about vegan food until we visited here. Firstly we were given the option to be seated in their small sunny garden which was just perfect for a summers day and our waiter even gave us the option of having bright sun or shade; this being the first of many little things that made this cafe stand out to us.
We had burgers and nachos which were not only delicious but got my friend instantly talking to the waiter about vegan food. So this cafe doesn't throw out food, they have the genius idea of any food scraps left going to rescue animals. I didn't even know there were places that had fields of rescue animals so this takes us onto our next point and we're given loads of information about animal rescues we can visit we which since have.
In the months since we visited this little cafe by the sea we've both learned so much about animal agriculture` enough to make my friend announce that she's ditching animal products and wants to be fully vegan by 2O2O. I want to say that this is in a massive part due to the kind and nonjudgemental nature of what we experienced at PotatoTomato. Our waiter said half of their customers aren't vegan and that's what they want, a far cry from places like the London restaurant that refused to take a new £5 note from me when I first went vegan and left me feeling like a total alien.

There are like 2 people who work there and I don't know how they do it as I never saw our waiter stop once yet found the time to speak to us and every table as individuals and answer questions. By far the best experience I've ever had eating out` and enough to turn meat eaters vegan!! Visit this cafe and bring your meat eating friends !!

Pros: Best service, Delicious food, Lots of options

Cons: We didn't leave room for another course

We had the smoothie of the week which was mango, kale, mint and apple, delicious! Along with a jackfruit burger and vegan roast.
Highly recommended!

Quiche to die for, excellent friendly service, wow!

I have had two visits to Potato Tomato during my holiday and both times had the quiche, which is the most delicious I've ever tasted and one of the best vegan foods I've ever tasted (during my 24 years being vegan!) The staff are lovely, so friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. And they took it all in their stride when my friend accidentally broke a glass - there's plenty more they said! Not to be missed when visiting Whistable. Looking forward to my next visit!

Pros: Excellent food, Friendly, Nothing too much trouble

Fantastic brunch!

Lovely friendly place where I had probably the best cooked breakfast ever (I had the extra large one with scrambled tofu and seitan bacon 👌). My friends had waffles and scrambled tofu on toast and were both really impressed. Great service too!

Pros: Not your standard vegan brunch options , Friendly, Outside seating

Cons: Quite small so might be hard for a wheelchair user

Amazing food and people

I have a garlic and onion tolerance but Potato Tomato made me a special burger to accommodate my dietary requirements and I have never eaten anywhere that has tried so hard to serve me proper food. On top of that, it was delicious. Will definitely come back!

Pros: Lots of options, Accommodating to special dietary needs, Not too expensive

Cons: Short opening hours

Saturday lunch

Excellent cafe, great choice in food. It was almost overwhelming to pick what to eat. Went with the Mexican burger that had onion rings and mayo with cheesy chips and a salad. So filling but made sure to have room for a banana split for pudding. All of use thoroughly enjoyed our meal and we had wonderful service. Will be visiting every time I'm in town.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Very pro vegan message, Wonderful service

Cons: Tight space so booking is recommended

Amazing place

I love Niki and Becky the owners but not as much as I love their full English breakfast, Mexican burger and mango and Apple smoothie. And the garden is such a lovely space to sit and eat.
Looking forward to many more meals here!

Perfect Birthday Treat!

**Updated review - Aug 2018**
Despite it being about an hour from home, PT draws me in at least a handful of times a year. Yesterday's visit was the best ever! The Mexican burger is to frigging die for 😋😋.
Had my usual naughty PT treat of a coke float to whet my appetite too.
It was super busy, but despite that (and one particular table who where quite unnecessarily and bizarrely nasty to the staff on their departure) staff were eminently cheerful and helpful.

**Original review - Sept 2017**
Ice cream float, amazing quiche and chips (others in my party had the Texan burger and the seitan steak sandwich, both of which I totally need to check out another time) and warm brownies and ice cream to finish. All vegan, all exquisitely yummy!
Highly recommended :-D

Pros: ALL VEGAN! All yummy. Really reasonable prices.

Cons: None

Vegany Goodness

We've been here a few times and always come away feeling happy with full bellies!
Delicious food, in a friendly atmosphere. The place is always clean and tidy, the staff are so friendly and helpful and the food is always so tasty. And all for a very reasonable price 😀

Pros: Friendly, Great food, Relatively cheap

Cons: It's too popular! - You often have to book ahead

Very disappointing

Sorry very disappointing restaurant . Unfortunately nothing was homemade here from the houmous to the salsa we had. Tabouleh was wet and salty. The scrambled tofu was salty and floury. Everything was so salty even the salad. Service and kitchen seemed disorganised. A very amateurish standard of vegan cooking.

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Plenty

Top marks!

I found Potato Tomato on Happy Cow and it sounded great so we thought we’d give it a try. It lived up to, and exceeded expectations. I went with two meat eaters and they were also really impressed with the food. Two of us had burgers and the one of us had mac and cheese. All the food was freshly prepared and very tasty. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend it to vegans, veggies and meat eaters (who won’t feel like they are missing out).

Pros: Great food, Good location, Friendly staff

Another great find!

Very cosy little cafe with character! Staff are very nice and helpful here and the food is really scrummy! My partner and I often visit the shack on Whitstable Harbour for their southern fried tofu! Not been in a while so not sure if it's still there.... I really hope it is. Still, the cafe is a great place to go!

Pros: Good choice of food, Friendly staff, Nice decor

Cons: Location isn't great as right on Whitstable high s

Amazing place!

We visited Potato Tomato this weekend after searching for vegan friendly places to go to during our stay in Whitstable and we are so glad we found this one! Great food, a wide variety of choices and all home-made and fresh - best vegan food we have ever had! Staff really friendly and helpful and pleasure to chat to. Was so good we were back the next day for breakfast and can't wait to visit again.

Every town needs a Potato Tomato! :-)

Pros: Excellent (fully) vegan menu with loads of choice , Lovely ambience and friendly staff.
