I understand a surcharge for plant milk in a country where it is more expensive and not very popular, but nearly $2 (60 lira)?? Nope. It's nearly the price of a carton of oat milk in the supermarket here and not only that, the best cafe I've been to in Antalya (Hayycoffee) only charges a third of that (20 lira). 60 lira is the highest surcharge I've seen in all my travels and I won't be supporting it when I know equally popular cafes in the city charge a lot less.
Of course they will charge extra for not beating and killing baby cows. People who don't care and exploit animals are happy to exploit the concerns of humans who do care as well. This is why vegans have the ethical obligation to boycott animal abuse establishments. Make coffee at home/hotel and imagine the baby calves cheering for your effort!
I mentioned I’m vegan and thankfully 1 of the 2 female baristas spoke English. They offered almond milk and I was told by a friend they had oat. At first they were confused, but then the barista pulled some from the back. It’s still pretty new and this is only the 2nd time I see this Turkish brand of plant milks, but I think it’s good and plus for not importing it. I was very excited and ordered my usual favourite- a hot chocolate. It was too sweet and I soon felt it was not vegan. I’m saddened at the lack of connection there. An order with plant milk and one doesn’t think to ask if the customer is lactose intolerant or something. Also, I asked after if the chocolate was as vegan and she said pretty quickly it’s not, but didn’t make any changes, apologies, or even comp the drink aka I still had to pay for it and left with a bit of a tummy ache, even though I mentioned I was vegan beforehand. Beautiful little spot to work or study, an open kitchen and clean facilities. Still needs improvement though.
