Meh

I rarely write a negative review, but... I only ordered a bowl of soup and waited almost a half hour to get it. Since I was on a timed train break, that really ate into my time. The soup was OK, and they were out of cask beer. In retrospect, I wish I had grabbed a prepared sandwich from the little shop next door, but it was chilly out, and soup sounded good.

Pros: Soup was ok.

Cons: Slow service., Out of cask beer.

Burger without a bun?

Not sure what the point of offering a vegan burger in a non vegan bun is, or how anyone thinks it's an acceptable solution to just remove the bun but I think The Chlachain could try a bit harder!

Not much for vegans

On a Thursday in July 2024, only the soup was vegan (tomato-courgette-chickpea), served without the bread and butter (no vegan bread on hand). There is a vegan-optional burger, but currently no vegan bun, the onion rings on the burger - if egg or milk is in the batter - would need to be left off, and there's no vegan butter or mayo. The soup was tasty and served piping hot. Too bad no bread or crackers for vegans.
Pleasant servers, though. Check the opening hours, as local restaurants are having staffing issues.

Unwelcoming

Had multiple options for vegan food on the menu but when we tried to order them we were told they didn't have them. We were offered no alternative. We were told the burger bun for the veggie burger wasn't vegan and none of the breads they had in were vegan.

Pros: Nice cider

Cons: The barman , The chefs , Misleading menu

Scottish

I liked my vegan burger, it was the only vegan main. I also like when you order tea that you get a pot of and they had oatmilk😄Was happy about it, just sad not more vegan options.

Tasty vegan burger

Vegan burger was fine, would’ve been nice to have a few more options, but great to have something to eat in this small town.

Pros: Staff is lovely

Cons: Not many options

Nice vegan burger

Nice vegan burger and beer. Burger was a wee bit oily but loved the taste.

Vegan options in tiny Mallaig

It was great to get some vegan options in Mallaig. We appreciate how remote it is and feels, and that's it's primarily a fishing village with fish / sea based menu options.

It would be great to have some kind of hearty salad dish to choose from so the weary traveller can get their vegetables in. This would increase the vegan offering to 3 dishes which would be great.
