Best new vegan/vegetarian spot in town

Phenomenal vegan and vegetarian food, all made from scratch in-house (even the bread!) with plenty of options and a rotating menu. Extremely friendly staff and an effortlessly cool vibe make this a welcoming space for everyone, solidifying The Cannon as a staple in the New Haven restaurant and bar scene. Cannot recommend this plucky little place more highly.

Disappointing

The steak pie looked so good in the picture - a flaky crust with warm filling served with salad and fries. What I got was a small pie with a thin bland crust filled with, at most, 1/3 cup of overcooked diced carrots and peas in a flavorless brown sauce. To be fair there were a good amount of nice mushrooms. It was tasteless except for a slight taste of beer. They recommended a $2 side of gravy which was like brown water. And no fries or salad. So disappointing.

My companion got the Rueben which was decent if nothing special. And fries which were too heavily seasoned.

One good thing was the cinnamon roll. It was unusual, made perhaps with graham flour? Not your usual cinnamon roll. It was delicious.

Pros: Menu is all vegetarian or vegan , Mushrooms in pie, Cinnamon roll

Cons: White bread only for the sandwich , Fries were overseasoned, Pie was small and flavorless
