Inconspicuously Vegan! - Edit
The Cannon was the most welcoming pub I have been to. My friend and I stumbled in one early afternoon and were initially a bit nervous given we are not sports people. Our nerves were quickly calmed by the delightful person working the bar, who was incredibly kind and guided us through the menu and drink options. We went for the food and were not disappointed! We got the shepherd’s pie, which had perfectly seasoned TVP- warm and cozy on a chilly day. You wouldn’t be able to tell this place was 100% vegan at first glance, but their values were displayed all throughout the bar, making in a great haven for vegans and politically conscious people.

Big fan - Edit
Delicious food; really enjoyed my brunch here so much so I eventually came back for dinner. I like how it's a fresh "take" on vegan food being a soccer pub.

Delicious, welcoming, vegan unique - Edit
We were delighted to discover this vegan bar that supports Arsenal. So many vegan places are similar vibes or cuisines, this was something different. The food was delicious, the people were welcoming, and when we stopped by on game day the place was packed and the atmosphere was electric. The “fish” sando was especially good, and we enjoyed the shawarma and Mac and cheese. Looking forward to trying more of the menu options!

Confused by the positive reviews - Edit
I was so excited to try this place due to the overwhelmingly positive reviews. We ordered takeout here on a random week night. When we arrived we were completely ignored for quite a while and stared at from afar by staff members. It took awhile to get someone's attention to be willing to help us. We were just trying to pickup an online order that was already paid for. When we got home we realized they completely forgot the fries with cheese we ordered (which weren't cheap) but we live too far to bother going back so we just took the loss. The rest of the food wasn't great. The mac n cheese is the worst I've tried from anywhere and was basically inedible, and I'm not picky when it comes to vegan mac n cheese, it's one of those things I always try if it's on a menu. We ended up throwing most of our order out after trying a bite or two, which is something we haven't experienced at any of the other vegan restaurants around.

The Vegan Experience I've Been Looking For - Edit
The Cannon is a cool Arsenal supporter pub that just so happens to be vegan. They have a great selection of beers and vegan pub food I haven't found anywhere in NYC or CT. We had the Shepherds Pie and Bangers and Mash and both were delicious, some of the best I've ever had (including in the UK). One thing to note is that you order at the bar. They have a sign, but I saw a few people sitting around waiting for someone to come take their order. I will definitely be back here, hopefully to watch an Arsenal match and get the full experience.

Great food and great vibe - Edit
Excellent food and soccer on TV but not a sports bar vibe. Very chill. I had the fried fish sando (hearts of palm, capers, nori) which was fantastic. With a side of vegan Mac. A previous commenter says not everything is vegan but I didn’t see any dairy cheese on the menu and the barman said it’s fully vegan. My partner had the shawarma special. We had fun.

More bar than restaurant - Edit
Not fully vegan, they have dairy cheese.
Read moreUnwelcoming, no where to sit. Ignored by the bartender and no menus to be found. Tried to order online to just get something to go, the ordering section of the website was down.
I'm from out of town and not the biggest bar person to begin with, so I wouldn't come back here if I'm in the area again.

Soooooo happy! - Edit
This place makes me feel like a regular person. Like I’m the same as everyone else, just hanging out at a local bar, eating pub food, watching sports, and listening to live music. Nothing pretentious, and nothing fast-casual-faux-healthy. The food was delicious and piping hot. Everything is made in house. Service is friendly. Vibe is… local bar - exactly how it should be. (Families with kids should be comfortable during meal-times.) It’s 30 minutes from my house and is totally gonna be my haunt. *Would be better if they got rid of the dairy-cheese-upon-request option.

The best in New Haven! - Edit
Must stop when in New Haven. Great ambiance, drinks, and amazing food. Everything is vegan - there is an option to add cheese which makes it vegetarian but everything is default vegan. Menu rotates a lot but the Stake and ale pie is fantastic and I love the fried “fish”

Vegan Full English Breakfast - Edit
I love EPL, husband is vegan, we both enjoy jazz and they all came together at The Cannon! I enjoyed the tofu scramble wrap with fried potatoes and my husband had the Full English for our Sunday brunch. Great footie on the Telly, lively atmosphere and the bonus of a live jazz quintet! I’m not an Arsenal supporter but we still got great coffee and service with a smile. It’s a fun, lively place with good (vegan) food. Cheers!

Adore it - Edit
We come here for Arsenal soccer matches and love everything about it. Really nice folks, regular bar (not some overpriced or extra hipster vegan place, just a nice simple bar). Very diverse crowd, from kids to seniors. And our food was really good!

An Arsenal pub for this veggie is my spiritual home - Edit
I travelled from New York to meet my friend from New England halfway at this place to watch an Arsenal game. Be in no doubt: this is first and foremost an Arsenal pub, and if you can get there on a match day as I did, the New Haven Gooners will give you a very warm welcome for the crazy atmosphere you will enjoy. On the morning I visited (they open an hour before kickoff on all Arsenal match days) they had a fully vegan breakfast menu. I adored the French toast, absolutely outstanding, worth the trip for that alone - and the fries with it were salty and perfect. But the accompanying fixings were a bit deep fried and greasy, perhaps a harbinger of things to come - the plantains for dessert were really disappointing, in a bitter cheap chocolate sauce for $13 when you add tax and tip wasn't worth it. Still, I'd definitely come again for the football, and would definitely have that French toast with it too.

This place makes me a cool mom! - Edit
We go as a whole family with our 16y and 18y kids. Our son loves the Foot ball club feel. I am the only vegan, our daughter is vegetarian and my husband and son eat whatever is in front of them. The food is very tasty. I would give 5 stars if they added a small pile of greens to the plates to help cut the fried pub food.

Upset my stomach on multiple occasions - Edit
I really want to like this place, I love the idea of a vegetarian pub and it has a cool vibe and nice outdoor seating. But the food does not sit well with me. The first time I went, my reaction bordered on food poisoning. I waited six months or so and went back... sure enough my tummy is not doing well. Maybe it’s that the food is soo greasy and sopping with oil, but I won’t be able to get myself to eat food here again.

Great addition to the New Haven Scene - Edit
This is a really cool, warm place, with a great bar, stand- up tables outside, and likely more outdoor space to come in back. Staff is awesome and they are focused on creative and delicious vegetarian and vegan food, with acmenu that changes daily. They pour a legit pint of Guinness. The vegan pastas, risotto and salad all very good.

Go out of your way for this - Edit
This food is spectacular. So much better than GZen which was the area’s mainstay for years. I had the heart of palm ‘fish’ dish with greens, grits and cornbread. One of the best meals I’ve had in years. Totally delicious. Vegans go out of your way!! This is an easy place to get to from 95 so if you’re passing thru well worth the detour.
