A spin-off of a meat-serving Thai food restaurant. Their non-veg venture, Sweet Basil, moved to a larger neighboring location and turned the original location into a vegetarian restaurant. Vegan items are clearly marked, and has a vegan dessert. Previously named Basil Cha Cha Vegetarian Bistro. MAY 2015 REPORTED SHUT BY COW AMBASSADOR. Mon-Fri 11:00am-3:30pm, Mon-Fri 5:00pm-9:30pm, Sat 12:00pm-9:30pm

Cool place by the bay. - Edit

I have been there a number of times. The food is good even without trying the fake meats and seafoods.

This is a great spot for after walking, biking, sailboarding, or kite flying on the bay.

Pros: Good food, By the bay

Cons: Out of the way.

Great for groups - Edit

This lovely restaurant is located in one of the prettiest parts of the mid-peninsula. I give their Vegan dishes and restaurant the following ratings (1=terrible 10=perfection):
dish size v.s quality: 8
Price per quality:8
Seating available:5
Decor and atmosphere:7.5

Yes I will come back again. :)

hole in the wall... good food! - Edit

Empty restaurant, tiny space yet delivered some excellent Thai choices and even several "faux" meats like shrimp and beef if that's your thing. Still nice sauces without oyster sauce, etc. I would come back for the inexpensive food!

Pros: inexpensive yet delish

Cons: no curb appeal ;-)

Wow!!! This place is THE place for Thai food. Really could not have been happier- we were half starved when we got off our flight at SFO and looked for the nearest vegan joint. The place is in a quiet neighborhood- very quiet. After grabbing our seats in an empty restaurant, (it was afternoon), we ordered the crab cakes (best vegan seafood I've ever had!), Pad Thai (perfection!) and lemongrass "beef" (super aromatic!) this is one of those gems that you'll remember for years to come.... Make the trip if your in SF, worth it!!

Excellent--New favorite restaurant - Edit

Food is tasty, but not too spicy. Large portions. Food is very attractively displayed on your plate. They ask you if you want egg in your dish or not (fi you are vegan)and they are flexible with special requests. Great decor. Friendly staff. My new favorite vegetarian restaurant

Pros: excellent food, good value, large portions, friendly staff, nice vibe

Cons: no sparkling wine

Excellent food - Edit

This food is so good even an omnivore could like it. Everything was delicious, and we had a big group so we were able to taste a lot of dishes. The decor was beautiful and presentation was fantastic. Recommend highly!

Pros: excellent food, friendly staff, nice decor

Cons: out of the way location

Thai Idea is the best idea in town :-) - Edit

This restaurant has formally changed it's name to Thai Idea (just like the new one in San Francisco) and has the same menu as that establishment. We just ate there and it was one of those mmm-mmm moaning, buttery, mouth-watering meals you can only dream of having in a vegan place. I really loved the (Tofu) Pad Thai (we requested no eggs) and the Pumpkin Curry is just a gift from God! My BF and I LOVE this place. It's right by the water, so you can take a walk after your meal and see the view to Oakland (if you like that view!). Unlike the other reviewer, we got our food at exactly the same time--no worries there, but service was a tad slow, but nothing to complain about. Overall, an amazing meal that was worth every penny and probably our new go-to place.

Pros: Good for Dates, Cute interior, Incredible food

Cons: Middle of nowhere location

Tasty food in a pleasant setting - Edit

Tucked away in a strip mall, Basil Cha Cha is a modern, nicely decorated and clean restaurant with a mainly vegan menu. There are 12 entrees to choose from, along with soup, salads, fried rice and noodle dishes. There are also 7 "Chef's Suggestions" items on the menu. The restaurant seats 36 and has some outdoor seating. The soft Thai music was a welcomed relief from the loud, often obnoxious music of so many eateries. It has one restroom that is well stocked and clean. The waitstaff is efficient and knowledgeable. All four people in our group were happy with their dinners, and all dinners were beautifully presented. There is one area that Basil Cha Cha needs to work on, and that's getting the entire table's food out at the same time. From the first dinner that was brought to our table, till the last arrived, was a 10 minute difference. We were there at an off time, so it wasn't due to a full house. If they correct that problem, this nice Thai eatery will be worthy of the fifth cow.

Pros: great food, knowledgable staff, pleasant atmosphere

Cons: Dinners arrived at different times
