Great food with a great mission - Edit
We were so excited to eat at Strecha tonight. The restaurant is large and bright. When we first entered we thought it was small, but the restaurant is in the shape of an L and has about three separate seating areas on the long arm. We sat in the very end room which had a couch with a low table and a chess set and a monopoly game. Our servers were very nice and spoke to us in English.
Read moreWe ordered the dumplings on red cabbage and the fried cheese with fries. It was great to get to try some traditional Czech dishes veganized. The food was delicious and the portions were generous - we sadly weren't able to finish our meals because we ran out of room.
We were happy to purchase a pending meal for someone in need.

Can't go wrong with Střecha - Edit
This is the new installment for Střecha which has more room and more on the menu than the earlier place in Žižkov. It's great to see such a place thrive with its socially responsible agenda.
Read moreWe had Schnitzels with potato salad, which was 4 out of 5 (could need a bit more salt/pepper), beer Gulasch with dumplings (5 of 5) and fried cheese with French fries (5 of 5). They also have cake and sweets.
Service was quick, the food rather cheap. We paid 9 euro for a meal and drink.
I recommend going there and enjoying their traditional Czech inspired cuisine. And if you do so, please buy a prepaid lunch for a person in need as well, which is only an additional 6 euro.
Pros: Tasty traditional Czech cuisine , Low prices , Prepaid lunch for people in need
Cons: Nothing

Fabulous! - Edit
We had two fabulous meals here because we enjoyed the first one so much, we simply had to come back, even with limited time in Prague.
Read moreThe ambience is warm, rustic, clean and friendly. The staff are polite and attentive. But best of all, the food is incredible. The oyster mushroom schnitzel was a particular highlight - richly flavoured and gorgeously crispy. It was served with an addictive mustardy potato salad with pickles. So delicious that I’m determined to recreate it at home. I can’t compliment the food enough. Everything we ate - cabbage pancakes, a hearty goulash, dumplings, olives - was wholesome, unpretentious, and seasoned to perfection.
I love the ethos of the restaurant, too. Both times we paid for a “pending meal” so that a person in need could access a lunch for free. If I have to be picky, the only negative is that one of the deserts we had (a berry crumble cake) was a bit dry, but it was the last slice, so I think it’s forgivable. The carrot cake was delicious!
Pros: Incredible food, Amazing ethos , Polite and attentive staff

Tasty local food with a mission - Edit
The food was really great, we went back 3 days in a row. The dumplings on red cabbage are delicious. We were so happy to find a vegan restaurant that serves real local food made from proper ingredients. The staff are very helpful and you are supporting their mission to help the homeless and ex convicts. I wish there were more places like this.

Everyone should come here - Edit
This place is fantastic, not only they have a social project where they employ people to help with homelessness or served a prison sentence, the food is so good, I had the seasonal lentil soup, best soup I’ve ever had, the soy rinds with potato dumplings was delicious, I wish I knew the recipe for the sauce!

Hearty Czech food, In solidarity with all living beings - Edit
Delicious, hearty food, friendly service, and completely vegan. The potato dumplings with soy strips and cabbage were very tasty. The Buchteln (sweet buns) were a bit dry, and the vanilla pudding was more like coconut foam. What's really great is that you can spend more money, and in return, people who can't afford it get drinks or food.

Only four stars (though it's more like 4.5), because we waited a long time before being noticed and had to signal multiple times to get their attention.

Lovely staff, incredible business model and cause, food just wasn’t for me! - Edit
I really love the business model - not only is it a co-operative but all the staff are ex-prisoners or have experienced homelessness.
Read moreThe vibe is gorgeous, venue is covered in warm wood and really tasteful decor.
The food was cooked well and tasted great - just wasn’t for my personal taste! My taste palette isn’t too keen on central and Eastern European food - I’ve tried and eaten lots yet haven’t found anything that I loved loved to my core.
(Absolutely LOVED the sauerkraut soup !!!)
If you’re a fan of these flavours I would deffo recommend ❤️

Excellent vegan restaurant - Edit
One of my - if not the - favourite restaurant anywhere in the world. Offers authentic Czech cuisine. I especially recommend the filled dumpling on red cabbage. They recently changed it from four small dumplings to a single big one and it made the dish even better as you have more filling. The Gulash and Vypecky are good as well, only the vegan duck and saukraut noodles didn’t convince me.

Wir waren heute schon zwei mal dort essen! - Edit

Didn't meet the expectations - Edit
We had dinner at this restaurant where they seated us in a not particularly welcoming area. Given the numerous positive reviews, we had high expectations, but they were not met. The food was either too bland or really too heavy. We couldn't finish our meals because we felt sick or, due to personal taste, we just didn't like it. I must say, however, that the price was very reasonable.
