Delicious! Get the tasting combo platter - Edit
The food here is made well, I think your best bet is to buy a combo platter and a starter for 2 people… you will definitely have some to take home! There are some plates that are a hit or miss detailed below:
Read more- Fried tofu: great, nice thick batter and love the sauce that comes with it
-Mac n cheese: imo if you reframe this in your head as rigatoni Alfredo you’re good. To me this was not mac n cheese
-cornbread: fabulous with the butter
- BBQ tofu: not the best, a bit too chewy but the sauce is great!
-Black Olive Potato Salad: amazing
-Red beans and rice: great, very basic and delicious
Lastly we got jalapeño poppers as a starter, which were incredible, so I highly recommend those.
It’s a nice place, with a great vibe/decor, a full bar and a lot of tasty food to try.
Pros: Reasonably priced, Lots of food

Really good - Edit
We’ve tried a few soul food places on our trip and this is the best for sure. Service wasn’t great but to be fair they are hiring for every position and clearly need more staff, so I imagine it would be a lot better once they hire.
Read moreCornbread was excellent. Mac n cheese came out cold and was spicy so not a fav for me. Mashed potatoes were good as was the fried tofu. We also got chocolate and red velvet cakes. Icing was delicious, cake was a little dry but still good.

A must-visit in Oakland - Edit
Any time I am in the Bay Area, I make sure I get to Souley Vegan. Simply the best vegan soul food I've ever had, and REALLY generous portions.

Delicious! - Edit
I liked the Mac&Cheese, the okras, the black eyed peas, and the yams. I didn’t like the chicken and waffles, the fried tofu, or the cornbread. I tried a lot by getting the sampler plate, which was so big I had to share with another person!

It’s heavy, but yummy! Get anything with the red beans. This time I got the Gator po boy, red beans and rice, creole nachos, coconut cake, and the combo plate with bbq tofu/mac&cheese/braised spinach/cornbread. It was all good, except the braised spinach was a bit too salty.

Quality of food is inconsistent - Edit
When it's good, it's good. But when it's bad, it's straight to the garbage. I really hate how inconsistent Souley Vegan is. I've been a virtual fan for awhile, cheered that she made it on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, followed on social media, etc. Over the past few months, I've consistently ordered various items off the menu but the food is inconsistent. When it's bad, it's because it's over-seasoned. I can take that when it's over-buttered even over-spiced. When you eat the over-buttered potatoes, you're thinking how unhealthy it is but you think to yourself it's a treat and just be better tomorrow. When it's over-sugared, similar reaction but I don't know my savory food so sweet. But over-salted is the worst. I can't order the greens anymore and take a chance that it's over-salted. I don't mean a little. I mean like an entire jar of salt fell into the pot and they didn't add any more greens to fix it. Now, the good stuff: the seitan strips are great, but could be slightly hard if you're long in the tooth. For some reason, the menu items are different on different food ordering apps. There's 2 mac n' cheeses and the pesto is really heavy starting my diet Monday kind of food. The creole one is better. Okra and grits, jambalaya, FLOC, fried okra, etc. are all good. Never get the nachos. What a joke. It was like really salty store bought chips with a couple of items left out all day from a buffet. The cheese was so salty, I thought I was going to have an aneurysm on the spot and had to throw it out. I want to support Souley Vegan but I need some more quality control before I have to start taking blood pressure medicine from sampling the menu.

Complete gem in Oakland - Edit
I’ve been using this app for a few years now. But, I created an account just for this review because of how good the food was. The pictures and location doesn’t do justice for the insane quality you can find at this restaurant. The reason I use this app is to find hidden vegan spots and this restaurant exemplifies that. Can’t wait to find an excuse to come back, hopefully sooner than later.

Amazing food - so so service - Edit
We had their calamari, pesto Mac, and chicken and waffles. The food was amazing, hands down some of my favorite Mac and cheese I've ever had as a vegan. That being said the service was pretty mediocre. They forgot out utensils so I couldn't eat my mac and cheese. Then my mum's chicken and waffles never came, so we ended up sharing. They finally brought it out and apologized which was nice. Overall I highly recommend their food, just maybe door dash instead?

Everything was delicious! - Edit
Ordered: New Orleans Okra Gumbo, Sizzlin’ Skillet Mac N Cheeze, Crispy Seitan and Waffles, OG Southern Fried Tofu, Southern Fried Tofu.
Read moreThe venue had good seating and music playing. We ordered for pickup and it was ready to go when we arrived. Every dish was delicious, the New Orleans Okra Gumbo had nice flavor and a small bite of spice. Sizzlin Skillet Mac N Cheeze was creamy and the chopped jalapeños added a good crunch to the texture of it. I haven’t had chicken and waffles in years and to have it was a treat, the seitan chkn was crispy and had a great texture, I ripped off a piece to have with hot sauce before using the containers of vegan butter and syrup to drown the seitan chkn and waffle and enjoy properly, so good. The OG Southern Fried Tofu was like a nice chkn sandwich, the lettuce and cucumber/pickle added a good crunch and flavor with the sauce on the sandwich. Southern Fried Tofu was delicious and crispy but really shined when the lemons were squeezed on them and then dipped in your favorite sauce, I really liked the garlic aioli and also used some of my own hot sauces at home to experiment. From everything we ordered and tried here I would say that you will be happy no matter what you choose from the menu, so next time I go I’ll try some fresh items😄
Pros: Large Menu!, Quick service

What a treat! - Edit
I was so excited to finally try Souley Vegan, it’s been on my restaurant wish list for a long time. I had high expectations given all the great reviews, and it didn’t disappoint. My favorite were the zucchini crab cakes, and I was also quite impressed with the fried tofu minis. The beignet was delicious for dessert. It’s a bit out of the way for me, but I will work hard to get back for more, and I highly recommend that anyone looking for an awesome taste of southern food stop by! The servings are generous and it’s pretty rich, so it’s great if you can bring a friend and share to sample more items. I felt honored to meet the owner, she’s such an inspiration, and the staff were all super nice.

I got the breakfast sandwich and it was AMAZING! I loved having pesto with scrambled tofu, I’d never tried that combination before! I went when only the brunch menu was being offered but I’d love to return to try something from their full menu. I also tried one of their house made lemonades and it was good :)

My favourite was the Mac & Cheeze and the Red Boy Beans & Rice. The Seitan Steaks with hravy and mash was a huge platter, big enough for two. Large menu, old timey feel and friendly service.

Future Visit 4sur - Edit
Brotha hosting the front is definitely the shizznit. Legend. What amazing customer service and the 2go packaging, near gift wrapped. The food, exceptional. Tasted the Okra Gumbo and Corn Bread (a bit 2 sweet) though gumbo juice offset. Ambience is jungle with a flare of getting a home cooked meal. Location off highway, on point. No need to avoid 2many pot holes.

This food was GOOD! I got the Mac & Cheeze and it was so much that I couldn’t even finish it, and for a very good price. The pesto was delicious and so was the added seitan I had on top. My friend had the jambalaya and loved it, but she did say the lemonade was incredibly tart! The location is also great being next to Jack London Square but far cheaper
