A Marin gem!

Amazing vegan options. Favorite place to eat in Marin County. Every time I’m up there I eat at Sol Food. The vegan plate is amazing. Plantains are delicious the rice is tasty and the beans are flavorful. You have to put the pique on it, it makes everything even better!

The lentil soup was fantastic. The staff is friendly too! I will continue to go here.

Pros: Food, Staff, Location

Wonderful vegan options

Definitely not a vegan restaurant, lots of meat is served, but there are plenty of vegan options all clearly labeled on the menu. I got the smaller size vegetarian plate which is vegan by default, a side of maduros, and the ponche drink, and it was all very good! I'd add a side of extra beans next time because the amount that comes with the plate was small to me but the plate itself was a good size.

One vegan dish

Only giving two stars because there is always a long wait and they only have one veg dish. It's black beans and rice with a side of plantains and an avocado. If that's what you want, it's really good, but not organic, and it's something i can make at home. That said, pre pandemic I used to enjoy braving the two hour long line and bringing meat eating friends.

Pros: Meat eating friends love it here

Cons: One vegan dish on the menu, Nothing organic, Long wait

Vegetarian Combo

The vegetarian combination is a good portion and super tasty. You can choose your type or beans and plantains. If you go you should also get the Ponche - it’s their homemade limeade and mango iced tea mixed together.

Vegetariano!

Their Vegetariano plate is vegan, nutritious, and super delicious! We could (and do) eat it over and over and over again. Their veggie deluxe sandwich is pretty good too, but it contains cheese, so not for vegans.

Flavorful Vegan Options

Having an aversion to queues, we arrived 15 minutes before 9am to beat the weekend rush. The place easily filled up by the time we were having our dessert.

The Sopa de Lentejas or lentil soup - Spanish lentils, pumpkin, green plantain & fresh cilantro - was good. It came with a side of thin bread that we topped with avocado from the Vegetariano Combination plate. This combo plate had rice, black beans, greens and yes, avocado. It came with a side of savory and sweet plantains. I never really eat rice with just black beans, so I was surprised to find the beans packed with flavor that it actually worked with rice.

The fried green plantain that is fried, smashed and fried again is called Tostones con Mojo. I wasn't a fan of this as the texture was too hard. Perhaps it was over fried?

The sweet plantain or the Maduros was perfect.

We also had the other Vegetariano plate, this time with the pink beans stewed with herbs and Spanish olives, & french fries on the side. The beans was good too, and the fries were fresh.

The Te Helado, or mango iced tea, had a light, fresh and subtle floral/fruity fragrance. I don't normally order sweet drinks because of the sugar, but I made this an exception. The concoction was perfectly balanced --clean and crisp, not too sweet, and very refreshing to the palate.

Not to be missed is the sole vegan dessert, the Tembleque. This unassuming creamy coconut pudding with mango sauce (or cinnamon) was a surprise hit. So glad I ordered this.

You pay at the counter, get your number and sit down. Portions are generous. Dining and bathrooms are clean. I do have to say that albeit a little too loud, I appreciate that they play music that is consistent with the theme and the cuisine. Most establishments nowadays play anything so much so that you can be in any restaurant so it doesn't make the dining experience special.

Pros: Fun, energetic vibe , Fast, efficient and friendly service, Good food

Cons: Music a little too loud, Wish they had seating for 2, Wish they had more vegan options
