Serves meat, vegan options available. Mexican bar and restaurant where vegans could ask for: nachos, vegan tacos and tortas, and its specialty frijoles a la charra. Open Mon-Sun 11:30am-2:00am.
here in SA, as much as I love the other vegan mexican foods, this one comes in second for me out of the four I know of. it is a bar, so be prepared for that, but I really like their vegan options. the vegan queso I would die for, it tastes more like a spicy squash soup than “cheese” but it’s truly a wonderful dip!!! chips are fresh made and tortillas are thick and delicious. as another reviewer said, the options for vegan toppings are elote and “faux”jita, which in this case is mushrooms, poblanos, and cooked onion. salsas are delicious and SPICY! unlike many other places w vegan mexican foods (aside from the king of them all, TAPATIO). anyway, go for the sanchos bowl. it’s four bucks, vegan without the crema and it is simply delicious. if it’s busy the service is slow but that doesn’t bother me. my only iffy experience is I can’t seem to get a clear answer on whether their very good micheladas can be made without the fish sauce... still unclear as I have heard both. but anyway TRY THIS PLACE FELLOW VEGS! i don’t think they deserve just 2 stars.
This place is run by the most incompetent people, I would say restauranteurs, but that would give them too much credit. Don’t try to order at the window which is obviously there to take fast orders, no, they want you to sit down and be wait on by a server or order at the bar. Good [censored] luck if you’re not 21, and you’re a hungry college kid wanting a place right next to SAC to get a nice vegan meal. You won’t find it here at Sanchos after the 30 minute wait you’ll want to leave, and go next door to the Cove. Which is exactly what I did ☺️👌🏼
All of their different vegan options are variations of the same things: the scraps of onion and bell pepper sautéed in a sauce that isn’t good stuffed in either a taco shell or on top of a piece of bread. Hard pass. 😖
Beware their food is spicy! They serve Mexican food street style. This is a BAR! Prepare for loud live band and an older crowd. They have vegan tortas (reccomend), tacos, etc. very good food. They serve great food for those who eat met also, my friends ordered their meat tacos and loved them.
The venue is very casual. Dive bar atmosphere. Their rooftop space is cool. They usually have live music. Margaritas are delicious. I like their vegan torta as it's a good amount of veggies and beans. Overall, torta is small, but flavorful. I wasn't impressed with the vegan nachos. I asked the server if the nachos came with vegan cheese and she said "yes", but they actually don't. The nachos were basically chips with beans and eggplant with a tiny bit of pickled onions and pico de galo. The prices are high for the quality and quantity you get. I only came here if I'm out late at night and it's the only place that's open.
