Serves fish, vegan options available. Restaurant located inside the Assembly Rooms, vegetarian except for one dish with fish. Vegan choices include scrambled tofu on toast, a daily soup, a daily main course, cakes, chocolate & almond pancake and others. Choice oat, soy or coconut milk. Under new ownership, May 2018. Reported closed October 2021.

Hidden Gem For Hungry Vegans

As a vegan, I'm so happy I discovered the Assembly Tea Rooms. Although not exclusively veggie/vegan, the owner goes out of her way to make sure vegans are well catered for by providing at least two dishes daily. The all day breakfast is to die for, as are the daily specials such as curries, casseroles, chilli etc, and not forgetting the pancakes with cream. This is now my place of choice due to price, and quality of food. You can also rest assured that the owner understands the need to avoid cross contamination with non-vegan foods. If you live in Lancaster, or just visiting, I recommend you give it a try. I would have given 5 stars, but only 4 stars allowed for non-veggie places.

Great value

Although this is a mixed venue, as a vegan you feel you get special treatment rather than being a pain. The chocolate, coconut and almond pancake with cream was superb, a great dessert. This is a local woman running a small local buiness and really making an effort to accomodate vegans wherever she can. The vegan full breakfast is great value.

Pros: Very cheap, Quiet, Attentive
