Great Vegan Food - Edit
We tried a number of vegan options including their weekly special which was a vegan reuben, the vegan ribeye sandwich, basket of fries and the vegan seitan wings with their melting pot house sauce. Most of their wing sauces are vegan. While we enjoyed all of the food, the seitan wings were our favorite. Large, soft chunks with a slightly crunchy coating and covered in sauce. Served with vegan ranch, celery and carrot sticks.

Pros: seitan wings, friendly staff, great prices

Amazing - Edit
I had the seitan wrap with pickle chips and my dad had one of the vegetarian burgers. The food was amazing, we kept eating even though we were stuffed. Also the bartender poured me a perfect Guinness 👏

Vegan Bar Food - FINALLY! - Edit
Ruggers is one of the most accommodating carnivore/vegan establishments I've been to. Without even asking if I'm vegan, the bartender advertised the daily vegan taco special. The seitan wings are huge, filling, and tasty!! I didn't even miss real chicken wings, but I crave these ones constantly. Most of their wing sauces are vegan; their signature sauce is incredible. The black & gold is also very good. I never cared for Ranch dressing but the vegan Ranch is unreal! We've also tried the banzo burgers and vegan ribeye; both hit the spot. They use a house seasoning on their fries and tots which makes them extra tempting.
Read moreOn top of the large vegan menu, drinks are very reasonably priced, the staff is attentive and friendly, and the rugby dive bar vibe is unique and welcoming to all. I will continue to visit Ruggers as often as I can! #Veganuary
Pros: Amazing seitan wings, Excellent service/dive bar vibes, Variety of vegan food options
Cons: Small bar, gets crowded quickly

Great vegan options - Edit
Many vegan pub food options. The seitan wings were great, they even have a vegan ranch to go with it. They use the seitan for sandwiches and wraps too. Vegan cheese would easily trick a non vegan. The toys and fries are seasoned well and crispy. #Veganuary

Best pub for vegans in south side - Edit
Where to begin! This place is great in so many ways; a legendary spot, with fantastic food, cheap drinks, and a good vibe. Will split up the review into three sections:
Read moreThe Food
Vegan options are extensive, and the whole staff knows what the word means and will look out for you. For apps/snacks, seitan wings are quite good - the $5 small order is plenty, “melting pot” sauce recommended. They have several sandwiches including a seitan wing wrap with peppers and onions (ask for sauce in the wrap), a house made garbanzo bean burger (very good) and a “vegan ribeye” (seitan sandwich on toasted bread, also very good). All sandwiches are ~$10 and include a side. They also have a weekly special, which is always available in a vegan version. Food can take a while during dinner time on weekend nights, so order right away.
The Drinks
The name of the game here is cheap drinks in quantity - this is a pub, not a cocktail bar. The Cowboy is a 24oz PBR and a shot of whiskey for $5 every day, and they have several other $5-$6 boilermakers and $3 bombs - check the online menu. Specials are frequent as well. Good draft list, with both macros and craft - check the brewery of the month to save $. Prices overall are excellent - most beers are $5 or less, 24oz pbr is $3, you get the idea.
The Vibe
Ruggers is more laid-back and adult oriented than most spots on Carson St - being a couple blocks off the main strip, the energy is much less hectic than the more youth-oriented establishments South Side is known for. They do card consistently, especially on weekends, so don’t forget your ID! There are TVs and they will show rugby and pgh sports, although not as many as you’d find at most Carson St establishments. There is some outdoor seating out back, but seating can be an issue during trivia night (Wednesday) and weekend nights. Trivia night here is good and competitive, with better questions than other spots in south side (e.g. Smoking Joe’s - great spot otherwise though). They take credit cards. Big rugby matches (finals, six nations, World Cup) will draw a crowd, so arrive early - check their website to see when they open.
