Delicious food, great staff

Found the place through the Happy Cow app but almost missed it - didn’t see any signs but it’s inside the market up the stairs and on the right. Had the lentil burgers, gluten cutlets and vegan pizza. A food and super nice people. Definitely worth a visit!

Friendly, welcoming, delicious

We had a wonderful experience at this café (myself, my husband and our two children aged 13 and nine). We went there for lunch on 27th December 2018. The manager was very friendly and welcoming, and although we ordered the shepherd’s pie, plus a burger for the nine-year-old, we were given a sample of many other things to try. This included bread fruit, and a Caribbean casserole made with coconut milk. All the food was delicious, and the fresh juices were an added bonus. We had to ask many locals for directions in order to find this place, hidden in the upstairs in what appeared to be a market venue but was mostly deserted on the day we visited. It was well worth it though!

Pros: Vegan versions of traditional Caribbean food, Very friendly

Cons: Difficult to find - off the beaten track

Yummy vegan gem

Discovered this lovely place while exploring Bridgetown. We already had lunch plans but got a delicious lentil patty snack and some refreshing juice made with golden apple and star fruit. The woman who worked there was someone I’d like to be friends with if I lived there and sent us off with the reminder of “one love”. I wish we could have gone back for lunch before we left the island but had to leave the next day.

Pros: Delicious , Friendly, Affordable

Vegetarian pearl in the Bridgetown oyster!

Root Reggae was an absolute god send in the Bridgetown area and in fact Barbados as a whole (given its size).

The food was great, plentiful if you get there early and always served with a welcoming smile.

I particularly enjoyed the vegi Fries (not chips), Breadfruit slices fried with tumeric and Fried Aubergine; all the naughty stuff :).

These accompanied dishes like Green banana curry, Edoes mash, Breadfruit pie, Stew, Cassava, black beans and rice, side salad. All healthy and wholesome tasting!

To wash down the goodness were options like; Cane Juice, Coconut Water, Mango and Cherry juice, Sorrel and ginger juice.

It's worth seeking the talented team.

Don't forget to accompany the food with Hot Sauce! You'll find it most places but goes so well.

Not open, Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday (At time of writing).

Pros: Good choice of fresh cooked menu items, Great price, Great service

Cons: None, check for yourself.

food for the soul

i was very much delighted to have that lovely and beautifully prepared food right there. it’s very easy to find, right in the row of food stands, second floor of cheapside market. one can sense the joy and dedication the trinity family has for what they do. vegan food and especially the food from them nourishes not only ones body, but also soul. thank you all a lot, also for the nice conversation we had.

Pros: all vegan, well balanced, local, seasonal ingredients

WONDERFUL VISITORS TO ROOTS REGGAE

Here I was listening to one of the interesting recordings on HAPPY COW when I heard that Germany has one of the fastest growing vegan and vegetarian communities. Well I was thinking it pretty ironic that ROOTS REGGAE had two couples from Germany this past week who were absolutely enjoying the food. Thanks to HAPPY COW they found us easily and one couple was even able to come again before returning home. At ROOTS REGGAE WE SUPPORT VEGAN FOR LIFE. Keep it up where ever you are and enjoy a healthier and happier life, for you, the animals and the earth. Blessings, ROOTS REGGAE.

Pros: Great taste, Friendly staff, Great Price

ROOTS REGGAE VEG CAFE DELICIOUS MEALS

At booth #10 upstairs the Cheapside Vegetable Market in Bridgetown Barbados ROOTS REGGAE VEGETARIAN CAFE is serving up totally delicious meals made with fresh vegetables, herbs, greens and coconut milk and natural juices made from fresh seasonal fruits that are rich and full of nutrients.
There you can have a tasty breakfast of lentil or veg frank burgers with lettuce tomatoes and onions; seasoned potato or locally grown breadfruit wedges and lentil fries packed with lots of fresh herbs. There is also a special energy punch made from linseed, oats, freshly blended almonds, sea moss and a local herb called finger grow that is mainly for the males. This punch is a definite must try. The lunch menu varies from day to day and consists of mostly ground provisions like green bananas, sweet potatoes, breadfruit, eddoes, dasheen, cassavas and yams and are served in casseroles with saucy vegetables through the middle or floating in fresh coconut milk sap with fresh herbs or creamed with the coconut milk. Brown rice and peas and an appetizing peas stew are served daily as well as steamed vegetables and a super green salad with fresh lettuce, kale, dandelion leaves, moringa leaves, fennel and more.
Fresh coconut water and cane juice is usually available.
Everything is 100% vegan and totally delicious. Everything is made daily from scratch and with fresh ingredients bought from the vegetable market downstairs and farms. Everything tastes like it is made with lots of love so go taste for yourself. Nuff love goes out to HAPPY COW.

Pros: Great taste, Great Price, Friendly staff

Cons: upstairs

fabulous

So glad this place was listed on happy cow because we'd have never found it otherwise. Tucked away upstairs like a hidden gem. I've posted a photo of our meal boxes and we took some take away for later too. Super friendly ad super reasonably priced. Thank you so much.

Wonderful Caribbean food

I accidentally found this little gem of a place whilst shopping for fruit and veg in Cheapside Market. Above the market is a row of huts serving inexpensive takeaway lunches (although there is some seating). The cafe is called Vegetarian but is actually completely Vegan and is run by a couple who make everything fresh daily. Outside of lunchtime 12-2ish there is a hot display on the counter containing takeaway snacks of patties, pasties, soy sausages and sweet potato/breadfruit slices (delicious). Hot lunch is served from bain maries and a selection of stews, pies, local vegetables, rice and peas and sauces, served with steamed veg and salad. The salad is very tasty and contains fresh herbs and even dandelion leaves. It is clear that lots of love has gone into the preparation. And to top it off the girl who runs the place is delightful and happy to go through all the ingredients, she even grinds all the spices herself. A hearty lunch here is only B$10! I recommend getting there early, before 1pm, at lunchtime as food sells out quickly.
