Roots Reggae Vegetarian Cafe
Above Cheapside market is a row of huts serving inexpensive homemade takeaway food. Roots Reggae serves authentic Caribbean cuisine which is fresh prepared daily. Outside of lunchtime 12-2pm there is a hot display on the counter containing takeaway snacks of patties, pasties, soy sausages, and sweet potato/breadfruit slices. Hot lunch is served from bain maries and a daily selection of pies, stews, local vegetables, rice and peas, and sauces, served with steamed veg and salad. Sells out fast so try get there before 1pm. ROOTS REGGAE VEG CAFE DELICIOUS MEALS - Edit
At booth #10 upstairs the Cheapside Vegetable Market in Bridgetown Barbados ROOTS REGGAE VEGETARIAN CAFE is serving up totally delicious meals made with fresh vegetables, herbs, greens and coconut milk and natural juices made from fresh seasonal fruits that are rich and full of nutrients.
There you can have a tasty breakfast of lentil or veg frank burgers with lettuce tomatoes and onions; seasoned potato or locally grown breadfruit wedges and lentil fries packed with lots of fresh herbs. There is also a special energy punch made from linseed, oats, freshly blended almonds, sea moss and a local herb called finger grow that is mainly for the males. This punch is a definite must try. The lunch menu varies from day to day and consists of mostly ground provisions like green bananas, sweet potatoes, breadfruit, eddoes, dasheen, cassavas and yams and are served in casseroles with saucy vegetables through the middle or floating in fresh coconut milk sap with fresh herbs or creamed with the coconut milk. Brown rice and peas and an appetizing peas stew are served daily as well as steamed vegetables and a super green salad with fresh lettuce, kale, dandelion leaves, moringa leaves, fennel and more.
Fresh coconut water and cane juice is usually available.
Everything is 100% vegan and totally delicious. Everything is made daily from scratch and with fresh ingredients bought from the vegetable market downstairs and farms. Everything tastes like it is made with lots of love so go taste for yourself. Nuff love goes out to HAPPY COW.
Pros: Great taste, Great Price, Friendly staff
Cons: upstairs

fabulous - Edit
So glad this place was listed on happy cow because we'd have never found it otherwise. Tucked away upstairs like a hidden gem. I've posted a photo of our meal boxes and we took some take away for later too. Super friendly ad super reasonably priced. Thank you so much.

Wonderful Caribbean food - Edit
I accidentally found this little gem of a place whilst shopping for fruit and veg in Cheapside Market. Above the market is a row of huts serving inexpensive takeaway lunches (although there is some seating). The cafe is called Vegetarian but is actually completely Vegan and is run by a couple who make everything fresh daily. Outside of lunchtime 12-2ish there is a hot display on the counter containing takeaway snacks of patties, pasties, soy sausages and sweet potato/breadfruit slices (delicious). Hot lunch is served from bain maries and a selection of stews, pies, local vegetables, rice and peas and sauces, served with steamed veg and salad. The salad is very tasty and contains fresh herbs and even dandelion leaves. It is clear that lots of love has gone into the preparation. And to top it off the girl who runs the place is delightful and happy to go through all the ingredients, she even grinds all the spices herself. A hearty lunch here is only B$10! I recommend getting there early, before 1pm, at lunchtime as food sells out quickly.
